This sumptuous mansion is located just north of Palais Royal, you must have walked by it a million times.

Normally it is shut, locked and sealed, BUT every other month they have guided visits, so what are we waiting for !!!
Well, let me warn you:
It's not at all easy to get around the French formalities in this - BUT somehow I managed - by applying ALL my angelic patience and by complying with ALL the demands of the lady at the Monuments Nationaux office, such as:
"So, you do not have une carte d'identité ? That can be a problem !"
"I must go ask my superior, please wait !"
"You must call back at 14:30, ask for Madame Johnson"
"We can give you 2 possibilites, either you may scan or telefax your passport, BUT you must know that if it's illegible, we will not be able to accept it"
"No, you cannot come by our office in the same week and show your passport, because that will be too late"
"You must understand that this is a security matter, for a hôtel particulier !"
"You must call back on the day before, before noon, to make sure there are no changes in the event"
"So, you don't have a French telephone number ? Only Danish ? No, that will not do. Well, we must do without a telephone number then"
The next guided visits are
24 April
19 June
17 July
23 October
8 December
Yes, the mansion is also open during Les Journées du Patrimoine, but as the lady said, the lines to get in are always very, very long, look:
This is what you do, if you want to participate in one of the guided visits. I believe they also speak English, so just go ahead and don't let the "red tape" scare you off.
One month before the date of the visit:
1) send an email to visites-conferences@monuments-nationaux.fr
telling that you would like to participate in the guided visit at Banque de France, Hôtel de Toulouse, at XX date, etc etc.
2) one or two days later, call the office, Les Services Visites-Conférences Monuments Nationaux at +33 (0)1 44 54 19 30 (as you are not likely to receive a reply to your email)
3) Ask for Madame Marie, ask politely if she has received your email - and ask if the visit still has free places. Or call at +33 (0)1 44 54 19 49 and ask for Madame Johnson.
4) Ask politely if she will accept that you send a scan or telefax of your passport, as identification
Telefax number: +33 (0)1 44 54 19 31
5) Send scan or fax - best to use "reply to all" because then you are sure, they receive your original email again
6) At the day before visit, you must call and reconfirm
7) At the day of the visit, do NOT forget to bring your passport to show to security guards.
Address: 2 Rue Radziwill, 75002 Paris
p.s.
Price for the entrance is 9 euros, so bring cash. I can't wait - after all this hard work !
