Obviously most of us could add a this or that...but for a first timer I think you've got it covered! ;D Unless she has a specific interest..on my first trip many moons ago I had just read and seen Les Miserable so had to go on the sewer tour! And I had also just read The Hunchback of Notre Dame(boy was I preparing for that trip! ) so the trip to the top was mandatory..had to get up close and personal with a gargoyle!...even with the ankle sprained on the second night there! With a list of favorite cafes, bistros, and restaurants she'll be good to go!

Annette, that is a super, and the most complete, list, enough to exhaust any first timer. I would just add one little detail When visiting the Eiffel Tower ensure that you travel by metro and arrive at the Trocadero metro station, to get that absolute "WOW" view.

:)I agree, this is a great list. I will copy it for my first time friends in September. An exalt for you. Just a thing... a carnet of metro tickets is 11.40euros now unless you have been buying the concession ones for children! LOL! I did that once by mistake, good job I never was stopped by the inspectors. Denise Love from England

I would add, you must stop in the middle of every bridge you cross, pinch yourself and repeat three times "I am in Paris!"
Denise is wise to bring up the metro inspector, first timers often do not know the "keep you tickets until the exit" rule.

Great list Annette. While I won't ask for space in the top 20, as an adjunct to no.8 you may want to consider the free Musée Cernuschi (Asian Art) at the entrance of Parc Monceau And from there it's not a far walk to the Musée Jacquemart-André. It's another of my favourite museums and the restaurant in there is lovely with all the artwork and tapestries surrounding you. The issue really is where do you stop. Answer: You don't. So I suggest you get your friends to start planning the next trip.

Annette - Just to show you how open-minded I am, perhaps you should mention Amorino on Ile-St. Louis, which many people prefer to Berthillon. "Chacun a son gout." ;D

Annette, I owe you BIG TIME for your post. A friend, whose stepdaughter is going to Paris for the first time, just asked me for some tips and an itinerary, including the don't-miss-it list. You just did it for me!!!! I copied and pasted and VOILA! PS. You DO know I'm taking credit for it, dontcha???

Great list Annette. I too have copied even thought I have seen most of these. However did not know about the bakery tour. Adding two suggestions of my faves. www.batobus.com/english/index.htmMy friend and I found this most enjoyable, a great view from the river, with stops at the major sights. Stops shown on website. Your fare is good all day with as many off and on stops as you want. For some it may seem a little pricey but for the view (as opposed to taking the metro) it was worth it to me. The stairs up to the street are steep stone stairs so not for those with mobility problems. ------ www.marmottan.com/uk/index_uk.aspGreat museum if you are into Impressionism. Great gift shop, small selections but reasonable prices. I got a large poster of Monet's Bras de Seine â Giverny for €5. Is also an enjoyable walk from La Muette metro stop.

What a wonderful list! And those bakery tours are just wonderful. Up until then, I was just terrified of making bread, and I mentioned this on the tour. The baker just laughed and said well, at least with baking, the mistakes are all eaten so there is no evidence! I will never be quite the baker that old gentleman was, but I suppose then again I shall never have quite the practice.

Annette: Now you just need to convince your new convert friend to give us a rousing trip report here in the forum when she returns.
