For the first time there is now a movie entirely dedicated to the Vel’d’hiv rafle of July 1942. So far there were only short episodes taking about the raid in different movies but this time a entire film is dedicated to the horrible event. The reconstitution is supposed to be remarkable. The film director is Roselyn Bosh, she actually found 3 survivors, and one of them does a cameo in the film. It will be open in Paris next week. Here is a link to the movie trailer : www.larafle-lefilm.com/

That reminds me that I've purchased "Sarah's Key", which I'm taking with me to read in Paris. Knowing me, I'll be up before dawn, and I want a very special book to read in those hours of solitude.

Den and I happened upon filming of this movie in May, we have a few photos of the actors in period clothing. They were filming in Montmartre, right near the Vanishing Man statue.

Having read Sarah's Key, I want to see the movie. It will be terribly sad as was the book. I would recommend Charles Glass's book Americans in Paris which looks at those who stayed through the German Occupation. Absolutely fascinating.

I'm just nearing the end of Americans in Paris. What a book! It's the day of the liberation. A very bloody day in Paris. I didn't want to turn out the light last night. I desperately wanted to finish. And I know how it ends! The book mentioned the Vel d'Hiv, but only briefly. Will look for this movie. Thanks, Luc.

Thanks Luc. It features Jean Reno. I'm a big fan of his and recently on Netflix watched him and Vincent Cassel in Crimson Rivers.

I also think that Jean Reno is a great actor, he never "overplay" il joue toujours juste.

Thanks LuckyLuc. I watched the trailer on the e-site you provided. It looks well done and certainly is an awful story that needs to be told. I recall Jo mentioning she had seen the filming of Le Rafle. Anyway, I look forward to watching it.....might be difficult watch due to topic/story.

I just saw this movie on TV last night. It was very well done, and needless to say, it was very sad.

In the same vein, I am reading a book, a train in Winter, that tells the story of the rise of the AResistance movement in Paris, particularly the young women involved. The most sobering site in Paris to me is the wall of photographs at the Shoha Museum.
