Yes, unfortunately -- France24 was reporting this morning that 25% of flights in/out of CDG are cancelled, and fully 50% of flights in/out of Orly.
It's little to no comfort, but for once it's not just France - this strike is Europe-wide. I was in Germany at the weekend, and the media there was all abuzz about the messes there, too.

Yeah....not good news for me. Air France says that 100% of their long-haul flights will be on time and unaffected (they'll make the necessary cuts on their shorter flights). But I'm coming in on United this time, wouldn't you know?!!

Oh Annette,
You really don't need this aggravation. Would United switch you to London and you could take the Chunnel?
Will keep you in my thoughts.

I'm stupid. I'm on Delta, not United. Anyway, I just called them and their most recent update says most air traffic controllers have returned to work and impact of the strike has been "subdued". I hope so! If not, I'll have another adventure to report on when I get back! LOL

As mossie said, keep calm and carry on. This time just might be the winner!

I returned home on the 23rd via air France. The only problem was we left one hour late, but boarded on time. The airport (CDG) was pretty quiet.

We have our tickets to the Salon, and had every intention of going this morning, but the storm named Xynthia has decided otherwise.
In a warmer climate, she'd be a full-on hurricane -- extreme low pressure with high winds and rain. Instead, she's made a real nuisance of herself -- 13 fatalities across Spain, Portugal, and France.
The wind is screeching around the house at some 40-50 mph (60-70kph), and we're opting to do a preliminary damage inspection from the safety of the house. So far, just a few branches down.
Paris this morning officially closed all parks and green spaces because of the threat from the winds -- it's since been lifted, but they said Paris only issues this sort of alert once a decade or so.
CDG is advising only that passengers phone their airlines before heading to the airport as schedules may be disrupted...I sure wouldn't want to even think about flying in weather like today!
Anne, hopefully you're tucked up in the corner -- I think you'll get at least some of it later this afternoon.
It should have moved out by tomorrow, but it's sure making for a difficult day today.

Wow, Sunshine - I'll bet you thought you left that kind of weather behind in Florida! I didn't know they had storms like that in Europe. What a mess. Stay safe and I hope your property doesn't sustain any damage. Keep us posted!

Fortunately, they're not too often -- and no storm season to keep an eye on all the time! (Though I still have NOAA on my homepage so I can keep watch during hurricane season...having family in hurricane country does that to you!)
We just got a lot of small branches scattered everywhere, so I'll have a day of picking up the mess, but no damage, happily.
It's mostly passed, now -- still windy, but not like it was this morning!

Sunshine - We've been having very rainy days too, but I doubt there's a connection between our stormy weather and yours.

Yes Sunshine, we're having it right now, started at mid-morning. But I feel that it's not that bad in our area, compared to the wind during some big summer thunderstorms or of course compared to the big 1999 storm : we were visiting relatives in Alsace on the morning of Dec 26th, 1999 and got stuck with many other cars on a road which had a forest on one side, and trees kept falling on the road and blocking all traffic . And it seemed that as quickly as the road maintenance guys were sawing fallen trees into sections and dragging them away from the road, new trees had fallen in the meantime. Like most of the people, we grabbed our kids and settled in some fields on the other side of the road, away from the car and the forest. It was really scaring, but after that we tend to consider all subsequent storms as minor ones. No storm that I've ever seen compares to the 1999 one, that's why we and many other people had been so unaware of the danger of driving through it. But of course European storms are nothing compared to the big US hurricanes.

Our snow here was of the wet, heavy variety so we've also had the tree problem..including one death in Central Park due to a falling limb. They advised people to stay out of the parks but of course folks still flocked to sled and otherwise frolic in the snow! Not I....after arriving home from work Friday, I've been cooking, watching the last of the Olympics, and watched "A Head in the Clouds" DVD..much of which takes place during the Spanish Civil War and then WW!! in Paris! Will be watching hockey this afternoon ;D Sorry..seems we've yet again veered off topic!

We woke up to gale force winds and rain yesterday in Paris. Got to CDG for our flight and told we might be delayed. We were lucky to get out pretty much on time. Not so lucky at Heathrow. No weather related problems there but the security lines were so long we missed our connecting flight to Los Angles. They booked us on a later flight and then sent us through the security lines again and another security line at the flight gate. So we missed the 12 o'clock flight and went through all the security lines again and nearly missed the re-booked 3 P. M. flight. As you you can guess our luggage has still not arrived. Be sure to allow extra time for security if you are taking a connection back into the US.
