Thanks for the restaurant tips that we had erroneously discussed in the wrong area! Yikes! Sorry, GitteK!
I was unsure if Le Pamphlet was still closed. Our hotel is going to make reservations for us, and I had asked them to book at Le Petit Pamphlet if Le Pamphlet is still closed.
My son read the description of Astier in a travel book and marked it as a must visit. Something about that cheese!
Thanks for your comments and this informative, friendly site!

goldenmama - oh, no........ you shouldn't apologize !! I just commented on it because I thought it would be such a shame if all your good tips to must-visit restaurants got lost in between all the other information. You almost made me feel like some old nazi....... But nevertheless, here are Truffaut's recommendations: >>>I ate at Bastide Odéon a number of years ago. I recall that it was quite good, but that they were out of many of their specialties by the time we arrived. Be warned that Le Pamphlet is closed due to a flood. Their other location, Bistro le Petit Pamphlet, is open and it's one of my favorite restaurants in Paris. I has a stylish ambience, the service is friendly and considerate, the food is first rate, the wine selection is very good, and the prices are really fair. 15 rue Saint-Gilles just a block or so off boulevard Beaumarchais. Astier was a discovery from our trip in February. LuckyLuc was with us, as well. "Shock and awe" is the only way to describe our reaction to the cheese course--27 selections, as I recall. We ate there twice in the space of a week. <<<
