As some of you know, I'm bringing my mom to Paris for her birthday in June. She's getting up there, so this "could" be her last trip overseas (but hopefully not). ANyway, she hasn't been to Paris since I was living there many years ago, and she is ecstatic.
That said, I am thinking of bringing her and her companion for a fabulous and unforgettable meal. I had pretty much settled on Jules Verne. Then Ducasse took over, they are no longer listed on reservethebest.com, and I'm trying to get details about any changes that have occurred since the takeover (menu, price, etc.). Does anyone know?? ANyone? ANyone??
If not JV, I'm really considering Yachts de Paris. I want this to be a home run night....
Thanks for any input!

Bonjour Les,
Le Jules Verne will be closed for renovation from August 15 to the end of November, 2007. So nothing will be change before that and in June you will have the same "old" Jules Verne.
Are you looking for something with a view or mostly a great meal? Everyone is different but for a home run night I would pick a valeur sure like Les Elysées du Vernet and then arrange for a private car tour of illuminated Paris. Not cheap but for a event like that who care!

Luc, I've been meaning to ask you about Les Elysees du Vernet. Is the chef there named Alain Soliveres? I've been reading a lot of nice things about Chef Soliveres. I wish I could remember where...

No, Happy, the chef is Eric Briffard a disciple of Robuchon. They have two Michelin stars. I find that the restaurant have the perfect balance: elegance but very discret, great service but not stuffy and the food, ah! the food.
I had the chance to dine at a few Michelin places and I really like this one. Count at least three hours, Once I eat à la carte for about 120 Euros and an other time I had the menu gourmand (8 courses) at 150 Euros, so not crazy expensive at all. Of course it is always the champagne $$$ and the wine $$$ that "do you in!"

Luc...you're killing me here...I only have 5 days in Paris...I'm going to have to eat twelve meals every day to fit all these great restaurants in! But you're right, 120-150 euros isn't bad at all for a two-star. We'll talk! ~the list lengthens~

Ok, just wondering if things have changed yet.
I'm looking for something that will wow my mom who is in her 70s. She probably would feel like the Queen of England dining in the Eiffel Tower. It's part the food, but part the ambiance I"m looking for...
Merci!

Les, your mom is very lucky that you're planning such treats for her. BTW, I bet she'd feel like a queen even if you took her to a less fancy restaurant. Which hotel will you be staying in this time?

It is. It's enormous, has two bathrooms and three bedrooms and is gorgeous. I found it on VRBO, and with three of us paying it turns out pretty inexpensive compared to a hotel for a week. It's near the Eiffel Tower on the Rue du Champs de Mars, and my mom will be all about that neighborhood!
