I Know this is Mossie's field! We have never been and I do want to go there in October. I also know there are 2 metro stops , one at the top so it's all downhill and one at the bottom where it's all uphill. What is the TOP stop, downhill I will probably be able to manage on my old feet !

Because I always stay at Laumiere I walk up av Laumiere to the lower part. I don't think there is much difference whether you go out to Botzaris at the far east corner or at Buttes Chaumont which is nearer the SW corner. Either stop is equidistant to the 50 metre high mountain in the lake which is the focal point.
Whichever you choose admire the apartments at the top of the buildings along rue Botzaris which must have the most super view across to Sacre Couer.
The eastern end has the sunken railway, now disused, which once linked the principal stations. On reflection I would advise Botzaris and when you enter the park go left along the roadway. Continue until you come to the roadway that leads down to the bridge crossing the lake to the island.
When you are done exit at the main gate on the north side, which is opposite the impressive Mairie de la XIXe. From there walk 300 metres down Av Laumiere to metro Laumiere, or catch bus 75 to Pont Neuf via Republique and Hotel de Ville, or, bus 48 to Palais Royal via Gare du Nord and Grands Boulevards
If you feel really adventurous catch bus 60 to Gambetta, from where you may walk downhill through Pere Lachaise cemetery

Jody.
Maybe we can do this together when we are there in October. My husband isn't a happy walker but is a good sport and may be willing to go along. But I would like to do this.

I am booked for Paris 15th to 19th April, but I feel an Oct trip coming on, then I could lead a walk through the park finishing with a drink with Napoleon III in his cafe opposite the N entrance ;D. It would take less than an hour, and cover a mile at most. I have never been in Oct, will have to wait a while and see if I can get my pass signed

Mossie, that would be great! First we'd love just to meet you and a tour would be icing on the cake! We'll be there from the 7th until the 22nd.
I also just was checking on dates and we'll be there for the vendage de Montmarte. I really am looking forward to that!
HOlger that's a great idea. We'd love to meet and walk together. Your DH and me can stroll behind you good walkers!

Would be great. We could do any day after September 30th till we leave on October 14th. Will be booking some lunches and dinners and hopefully a performance at Opera Garnier that will not be cancelled by a strike this time. But a quick look at peoples schedules seems as if most of us on this thread will be there on the 8th and 9th. The other thread on GTGs has some other people who will also be thinking of meeting together so we may be able to combine some of the activities.
Let's just keep in touch and as we get closer to dates see what and who can be be involved.

We haven't set our dates yet, but the sistereurope's may be in Paris around that time (we want to go to the vendages). So maybe we'll tag along. It's so funny Gitte - I was just browsing apartment listings on slow trav (still dreaming/scheming about a quick solo trip in May), when I saw this apt: www.alwaysonvacation.com/vacation-rentals/592761.html?t=VMC&f=abaRight off the rue de Mouzaïa !

That's a nice looking apartment, if a bit plain at a fantastic rate.

Jody, I'm pretty sure that we'll be there for the vendanges...at least that's the plan so far, although no dates have been set. We might go to Burgundy, but of course if wedo that we must begin in Paris...and what better way than a party in Montmarte and a walk around the Butte?! ;D

I plan to attend the vendanges too, although I will only stay in Paris for two or three days. Count me in for the walk Mossie ! You will feel like a tour guide with your flock following you dutifully along the alleys of the park. We won't tip you at the end, but will certainly invite you for the next meal ;D !
