Just rented this wonderful, sentimental and entertaining movie which the NY Times bashed earlier this year. We loved it so much. It's about a Parisian music hall falling into the hands of organized crime and the devoted entertainers and backstage folks trying to save it. Yes, corny. But really good characters - acting - music - a little modern French "history" thrown in. Bad villains, terrific though unlikely heroes. Highly recommend it.

It didn't get good reviews in France either and flopped, but it is visually pleasant. The young woman is a real find and stood out for the critics, too, but strangely enough I haven't seen her in anything else since then.
