Hi all ! The museum of fairground arts (one of my fav in Paris) is open to the public from december 21st to january 3rd. Normally, you can visit this museum only by appointment, with a guide. But they have decided to open it all day long, without any reservations, during two weeks. For those of you who are in Paris during these dates, this is an opportunity not to be missed ! As for me, I will take my kids there tomorrow or thursday. www.pavillons-de-bercy.com/EN/index.html

That's great news! Well, maybe not for me since I'm not there...but it's great news for someone! I hope that this brief public opening will prove successful enough that it'll happen again sometime when I can be there. It sounds like a cool museum!

But anne - I thought they had moved all the stuff to Grand Palais for the holiday season ?? Entrée : Adultes : 5 € / enfants de moins de 10 ans : 3 € (comprenant l'exposition Les trésors du Musée des Arts Forains, les concerts, l'espace « le monde des enfants ») Tarifs des attractions foraines : entre 2 et 4 € -----------------oooo-------------------------- BUT I will definitely take the opportunity to go out and see the museum, otherwise. I still regret not going with you, when you arranged the visit on TA a few years ago.

Oooh, I didn't know that ! . A proof (like if I needed one) that I should be more present in this forum, you know everything about Paris, better than the natives !!! Well, I will tell you if there are some interesting stuff left ! I will be able to compare since I visited it two or three years ago. Anne

I never made it to Le Grand Palais, but went straight to Musée des Arts Forains. If you want to see the pictures, you can see them by clicking here ! It was very lovely ! The next time they open up to the public, for individual visits, is during Les Journées du Patrimoine in September. But expect it to be crowded, so come very early (i.e. just before they open in the morning). Saturday morning on the weekend of Les J.d.P. the local Paris newspaper "Le Parisien" offer a special section with all attractions listed. Or at least, I think it was Saturday. To be certain ask Friday morning at a newspaper kiosk.

Gitte, I read your report. I am so glad you could make it to Museum of Fairground Arts and had a great time. You didn't miss anything at "Jour de Fêtes au Grand Palais", a tourist trap, in my opinion. It is true that museum of fairground arts is not cheap, but well worth it. It is funny that most foreign tourists find nothing interesting about Bercy Village, but Parisians really love it ! The main reason to go there for us is the multiplex movie theater (I go there at least twice a month), then the shops which are popular among us (Nature et Découvertes, Résonances, Alice Délice (kitchenware stuff, my favorite one), Fnac Eveil et Jeux, Oliviers&Co, l'Occitane,...) and...Parc de bercy and its vineyards, a great park to stroll or have a picnic, weather permitting...Did you get a chance to see it ?

Regarding Bercy Village--We were there in May 2008 and spent several hours. It has considerable charm--not the 17th century type, but charm nonetheless. As we browsed shops and talked with a chef demonstrating making the roll-up hors d'oeuvres from his own on-sale cookbook, we were practically inundated by schoolchildren on some sort of store-centered "treasure hunt" in which they had to find answers to long lists of questions. We also enjoyed walking through the parc. It would not be on my list of Things to Do during one's first 5-day trip to Paris, but as a frequent visitor looking for new, interesting, and different places, we found it worth the time.
