From what I read, the closing is just temporary, it should reopen in 2011. Thing is, the museum belongs to the French Sénat, which is based in the palais du Luxembourg too. The Sénat has been criticized for the way the museum was run by a private "tenant". Now they want to change the juridical frame for the future new tenant : it will be a "délégation de service public", which will allow the Sénat to impose its conditions (what we call a "cahier des charges") in terms of entrance fees, education actions, type of exhibitions etc ... The new tenant should be selected by the summer of 2010.

Yes, I was reading an article about that yesterday. They broke the contract with the management company (which was valid until 2012) and have to redo everything.

I attended the Tiffany exhibition there a few days ago, there were petitions all around asking for signatures to stop the closing.
