Thanks, Jody - this looks like great fun! I'm wanting to go to Paris so badly - bad case of PPD right now!! I just checked air fares for the first two weeks in January and not too bad but still expensive - wishful thinking on my part!

I saw that this morning too, Jody, and was going to post a link after the grandbaby went home. It looks like a really fun event, doesn't it? Sure wish I was going to be there then. It would give those of us who haven't been to the Musée des Arts Forains a chance to see some of their goodies!

What fun! Let's go! Although I'm not sure that I'd be up for riding on the merry go round with a NY hangover!

When I got the tickets to the Renoir exhibit in October, I was so hopeful that I'd get to see the gorgeous roof of this building, my favorite in Paris, from the inside. Of course, it wasn't open. I had decided not to open that link, Jody. I figured it would make my Paris-envy unbearable. Of course, that idea didn't last long and I opened it . I AM DEAD JEALOUS OF YOU GUYS.

I went in 2005. It is fantastic. They've got snack bars with candied apples and gaufres for the kids, and other stands with oysters and champagne for the gr'ups.

I went to the Grand Palais this morning. Two words : big disappointment ! I don't know why, I was expecting the ancient attractions from museum of fairground arts to be there, but that was not the case at all ! They had nothing special, just the regular traps (each attraction costs from 2 to 4 euros, and of course one never wins anything) . . And I did not mention that you have to pay for the entrance, too. At the Foire du Trone, you can get the exact same charmless attractions without paying an entrance fee. The museum of fairground arts contribution only consists of some nice pieces of decoration. I was so disappointed that I took my girls to the Museum of Fairground Arts at Bercy Village. Since it was exceptionnally open to the public, it was packed with people but totally magic ! The attractions are old, but they are soooo beautiful and a lot of fun. When you pay for the entrance, two attraction tickets per person are included. This place is really fascinating and I really recommend that you take time to have a guided visit there when you are in Paris.

Anne, thank you soooo much for this piece of on-line info ! Do you think that Musée des Arts Forains will be open on New Year's Day (i.e. Friday being a holiday ?) - then I would certainly want to go out there instead of Le G.P. Woop woop........... !! OK, back to the old ironing board......

Oh, and I forgot to say that guided visits are organized three times per day. And there is a magician every hour, musicians, a barrel organ player, onion soup (extra cost), and plenty other great things...As for the attractions themwelves, my favorites were the ancient bicycle carrousel and the garçons de café (waiters) 's race : so fun ! Anne, are these 3 guided visits per day and musicians, magician, etc. just during this special public opening, or do they also offer these when you make a reservation for one of their regular guided visits at other times of the year?

Annette, these musicians, magicians, ...are just during the public opening. Gitte, I saw this info myself yesterday when I visited the museum. There was a billboard at the entrance with the guided visits schedule. I really can't remember the schedule. I have just called them but it is just an answerig machine. By the way, I made a mistake about the opening hour : it is 11 am and not 10 am. Ooops, sorry.
