Found this great site through a link on Slow Travel. My first visit and post. Also my first visit to Paris (next September) although my wife has been several times for brief visits. We have booked an apartment with Untours in the Latin Quarter, 5th Arrondissement for Next September. It was a bit of an impulse since we were told it was one of the most popular. Now that I have been reading a bit about the area I get the impression it is crowded, noisy, and overly touristy. The pictures of the apartment look great. Should I be concerned or just go with the flow? Will we be able to sleep? Looks like a great area for walking to various sights and sites. David

Welcome to the forum, David.
Do you have the address of the apartment? Is it the Gracieuse apartment. If it is, it appears to be close to Place Monge. If so, it will not be as crowded as the area around St-Michel. Also, there's an open market at least twice a week on Place Monge plus you will be close to rue Mouffetard - great shopping street and fun on Sundays.
Paris is great even if parts of it is very crowded. As you said "just go with the flow."
Have fun planning!

Welcome David! I agree with JustTravel--if you can get us the address, we can give you more details about your specific location. The "Latin Quartier" covers a pretty large area.

Welcome David... I have been staying in the Place Monge area of the 5th for 5 weeks now and it is not that crowded.. the area is very safe to walk around in the evening.. and although you hear the sirens of the Pompiers etc during the day, it really is such a nice place to be located. Of course I am totally biased when it comes to the 5th so maybe my comments won't help you Bisous de Paris Roniece

There is absolutely no need to concern yourself, you are going to be so tired with walking round and taking in the sights, not to mention the wine that you will sleep through anything, and wake refreshed for more next morning. Just relax and enjoy Paris

IMO the 5th is much less crowded and touristy than the 6th. I think you will love it there.

The only place I've found in the 5th that is particularly crowded is around Place St Michel. But even saying that we stayed in an apt just a block in from the Place on rue St Andre des Arts and were not bothered by noise or crowds.

The 5th is perfect for a first time visitor.

Since I posted I have read reviews by several people who rented the apartment and they loved it said it was quite. So they agree with you all. Thanks for the responses. We are really looking forward to Paris, the food and the food shopping since the apartment looks to have a great kitchen. And lots of walking and riding the Metro.
