For those of you in town... its journees du patrimoine and many national buildings are open to the public. The lines at the Elysee palace are historically long, but you can visit the greenhouses at the Luxembourg gardens, the senate, the national assembly, the observatory, the mining school and countless other gems. Here's more info for the curious... www.journeesdupatrimoine.culture.fr/

Thanks for the site, phread!
I will be planning my fall 2010 trip around this weekend. I've missed it for various reasons for the last few years.

Don't worry, phreaddie. We'll be there !! There are also veteran choo-choos to see out at metro Porte d'Auteuil and they will even be running the old wagons every full hour between Porte d'Auteuil and Gare d'Austerlitz !
No sleeping this weekend !

Hi all!! Joining the celebration of the Journees du patrimoine, the French embassy in Buenos Aires was opened to the public yesterday. When I got there at 3 pm the lines where so long that I decided not to wait, I´ll try to be there first thing in the morning next year. Anyway, pictures of the interior were no allowed, but I took some pictures of the exterior, which is quite spectacular as well (you can see the lines on the second picture): Below: the building on the left is the French embassy, the one on the right is the Brazilian embassy, which is a copy of the museum Jacquemart Andre (or so I was told): And the past week we also had the visit of the Patrouille de France, which offered an aerial show over Buenos Aires, drawing the French flag as they do on July 14th over the Arch: videos.lanacion.com.ar/video11432-el-color-sobre-el-obelisco

Phread, is the garden weekend always the weekend after the journees de patrimoine? I would like to include that in next year's plans. Thanks.

Darcy, I am really not sure... Your best bet would be to google the two and see if that has been the case the past 2-3 years. Sandy, thanks for the pix. How cool that they export the idea...
