I found this apartment after hours of searching VRBO. It is VRBO #44176 www.vrbo.com/44176 or visit the website www.rentalapartmentparis.com/Visit%20Our%20Paris%20Vacation%20Apartment.htm.
The things I was looking for were: A separate bedroom (not a studio), bath tub (with shower), at least a queen size bed (not a futon or hide a bed), and with a budget of $150-$175/night. I would have preferred a central location, but being in an outer lying arrondissement did not bother me as we were in the outskirts on our first trip to Paris and I knew how easy and efficient the metro was. This lovely apartment in the 17th (Batignolles) ticked all the boxes and was available for our dates. We later had to change our dates and the owner, Doug, was very accommodating and helpful. The fact that it had a dishwasher and small balcony were bonuses.
We paid $1190 U.S. per week plus a $50 cleaning fee. We stayed a total of eight days.
Preston, the native English speaking concierge, met us at the apartment and let us in and showed us around. He was very nice and easy to deal with. The owners have also supplied a very comprehensive binder about the area, transportation, restaurants, etc. that was very helpful.
The closest metro stop is La Fourche which was about three blocks away. We also used the bus and the stop was about two blocks away. Shopping and restaurants are all around the area.
The building has a small elevator, which is handy when you are returning with shopping. Speaking of which they also supplied one of those small shopping carts. Very Parisian.
The living/dining room is large and furnished beautifully with a couch (that makes into a bed but we didn't try it), two leather easy chairs, an antique dining table with four chairs and a cabinet that holds many wine glasses. Even though the apartment is furnished with antiques it does not feel stiff or stuffy, just very comfortable.
There is also a small desk with a laptop that has free Internet and a telephone with free international calling (a real bonus!). We had to use a dining room chair for the computer, and it was at a bit of a awkward height. A small computer desk chair would be a great addition.
The living room is very homey and comfortable. It is well light by two large windows that both open out onto a small deck that faces onto the street. It was very nice to go out on the deck and watch the world go by beneath you.
In the living room you will also find a TV with a few English channels (mostly news stations like CNN, MS NBC, etc) and many Paris guide books.
The kitchen is very well equipped with a microwave, washing machine, fridge, stove, oven, dishwasher, coffee pot, toaster, etc. It also is stocked with lots of dishes, pots & pans, utensils, etc. We really did not lack anything during our stay. It was very clean. (Sorry the pictures are fuzzy ... darn flash did not work.)
The kitchen window looks on to a very cute courtyard.
The bathroom was modern and had been renovated. Sorry I did not take any pictures. It had a toilet, sink, bathtub with wall mounted hand shower. The tub also had sliding glass doors. There are two small windows in the bathroom for ventilation. One small point I must mention is that the tub is quite high and someone with mobility issues would have a problem getting in and out of it. Maybe a small step of some kind could be installed.
I do not have pictures of the bedroom either, but it was also nice and comfortable. It had an extremely comfortable queen size bed with luxury high thread count linens, built in cupboards all along one wall, a dresser and two side tables. Each side table had a reading lamp, which was nice. There was also a selection of novels in the bedroom for your reading pleasure. The bedroom window looked out onto another courtyard. Other than a baby crying one night the bedroom was quiet enough to leave the window open.
One small negative point I must mention about this lovely apartment is that there is another apartment on the floor above it. You can really hear the people walking around up there, and because they have a small child there was quite a lot of footstep noise from above. This may or may not bother you. It's just something you have to get used to.
I would not hesitate to recommend this apartment. We had a lovely stay there. It is off the beaten track in a very un-touristy part of Paris.
