Michelle Pfeiffer is starring in a Stephen Frears film based on the two "Cheri" books by Colette. The young lover is played by Rupert Friend (perfect casting imho) and Cathy Bates co-stars. I'd always pictured Simone Signoret ... it'll be interesting to see how well the cast does and if the adaptation will capture all the bittersweet romance of the source material.

I had a hard time with the books. Maybe I should try again. Let us know how the film is!

I loved Cheri more than the last. i'm a huge fan. I have two autographs I bought years ago and visited the chateau, now a museum dedicated to her, and her home where she grew up in Burgundy. The Pure and the Impure is one of my favorie Colette books as well as Gigi. My favorite film adapted from one of her stories, is an old one, The Ripening Seed,

Well, we saw this a few weeks ago and give it two thumbs down. So disappointing. Michele Pfeiffer was badly miscast and the film was downright boring...unlike the books which were dreamy. Don't bother...
