It's like any city. different parts of town people dress differently. Go around the Hermes, Chanel area and it's the only place I see some of the outrageous trendy stuff like those high, high heels that look like cages or Carmen Miranda. The Marais, you see everything mixed in.

But if you go to the "Hermès Chanel area" in the evening when the concierge's families are putting out the garbage cans, you will not see the daytime visitors anymore. The same would go for the Marais at dawn, when the night fauna have finally gone to bed.

Now perhaps some people will stop worry-gutting about how they look. I doubt it.

True, worrying about what to wear is probably part of their pleasure.

Great photos, kerouac! I've been wondering where to post this fashion plate and you've provided the perfect thread. Note the chic shoes she's wearing! ;D I took this in early Sept 2006 when it was about 95 degrees every day. If I had her body, I might have worn that dress too!

:)Thanks for this Kerouac, an exalt from me also. Can you publish it far and wide on TA? It SO irritates me when I read all the rubbish people post about what the people are supposed to wear in Paris, causing uneccesary anxiety. "Everybody wears black"! ::") Everybody is smart"! "Nobody wears shorts" " nobody wears trainer"s ..... and the latest, "it's offensive not to look smart"! .....I just want to write "what a load of ****ocks! Sometimes I wonder if I have visited the same Paris as these people!. My experience is, like you , that people are people all over the world, some are smart some are scruffy and everything in-between. The only observation I would make is that from your photos Pariseins are slimmer than the people of the North of England town where I live. Sorry...just letting off steam... Denise love from england.

Darcy,
You take the best candid photos!! That is quite a dress - or should I say "non-dress" that this young lady is wearing! I don't blame her if it was so hot and like you, if I had that body, I might consider wearing this one too - the shoes are quite the accessory! At least her feet wouldn't hurt!
We need Mossie to post a good comment on this one!!

Yes, Kerouac - thanks for posting the link to these pics - would be hard to tell from the way people are dressed if one was in Paris or any large city here in the US!

When I was a youngster my sister, newly married, came back to New Jersey in the summer from Alaska!!!!. We were doing a New York day trip(United nations and Radio City)with the family. She gave me a talk about how to dress in NYC... Then I moved here,,,,while if going to midtown on a weekend I do go the extra effort(make up, neater clothes, etc)...when in my hood...which is the "fashionable upper east side" running errands, hitting grocery store, drug store, dry cleaners, etc, I'd be embarrassed to tell you how I sometimes leave the house! But yes in any major "fashion capital" there are those who "dress" and those who are living normal lives. When in Paris...I try to dress nicely..because I never know where the day will take me..and because I'm on vacation and haven't exactly packed the sweats, knit shorts, tee shirts etc.! ;D But that's nicely...not fashion plate!

Dearest Darcy - Next time you decide to photograph such a special dress, please make sure you take a few more pics from all angles. All I can say is that that girl is very daring.
