We are hoping to catch the Warhol exhibit at the Grand Palais. I'm looking forward to seeing pop culture icons and the inside of this magnificent building as well.
4 weeks from today, we will be landing in Paris and beginning our 3rd adventure.........can't wait!!!!!!!!!

We are hoping to catch the Warhol exhibit at the Grand Palais. I'm looking forward to seeing pop culture icons and the inside of this magnificent building as well. Ditto for me! The Warhol exhibit is on our list for this trip, partly so we can get a better view of the inside of the Grand Palais. Phread, should we book tickets ahead of time? Also, any personal observations on the other exhibits would be read with great interest.

I don't know about the Warhol exhibit, but you certainly needed to book ahead for the Picasso there.
If we get to the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh nextweek I'll have to try to take some pictures for you!

I saw a Warhol exhibit a few years ago, and was really surprised. The works were much more impressive in person, than what comes across in photos.

The Warhol works are also much deeper than the fotos. I especially loved a Jackie O piece. Very moving. BUT this show does NOT give you access to the impressive part of the Grand Palais. I think you need to see the TAG exhibit for that. As for tickets... I think that lies do get rather long (nothing like Picasso though) so getting them in advance is a good idea.
About the Warhol museum in Pittsburgh, but a 1/3 of the Paris show comes from their collection.

I think you need to see the TAG exhibit for that. By this you mean the Graffiti exhibit? Thanks for the heads up on not seeing the building like I thought we would with the Warhol exhibit. That's a little disappointing! I thought we'd kill 2 birds with one stone. Not sure hubby would go to a graffiti exhibit willingly

I'm disappointed about that as well. I was hoping we could visit as much of the inside as we wanted. The TAG exhibit is done by the time we get there and although there is a ticket that allows us unlimited time at the Grand Palais as well as all exhibits until January 2010, it is more than I want to spend just on one venue (about 79euros for 2, I believe).
I did find something interesting on the FNAC site when I go to buy tickets on line ~ it says that due to the Nuits des Musees on May 16, the exhibit will close early that afternoon but will be free after 7:30pm. We had been planning to go to the Louvre for free that night but maybe we will save it for the Warhol exhibit since we have done the Louvre 3 times in the past 2 trips (although we know we have only scratched the surface). I guess we'll decide once we are there..........in 28 days!!!!!!

Ooohhh...28 days Jo, that's getting close! I'm still in the 40's somewhere. So if the TAG exhibit closes before we're there, what will be in it's place inside the "grand" part of the Palais?

Thanks Jo, I am running out of days to do all the things we want to do (and eat at all the places we want to eat!)
The Jazz exhibit looks great and we've been meaning to see the Carnavalet since our first trip.
I just don't know how I can make the next month go faster!

There was a subject yesterday on the France2 news about the fact that in this period of economic crisis, people take refuge in culture, provided that it's cheap enough . So books, cinema and exhibitions sell incredibly well nowadays, while theaters for example aren't fully booked, especially the most expensive seats . Anyway, my point is that they gave the example of the Warhol exhibition which attracts as much as 7.000 people per week-end, so Jo and Annette avoid visiting it on a week-end (but this is true for all major exhibitions) and try to get advanced tickets indeed .

Good advice, Anne. This is one we really want to see, so maybe we'll have to plan in advance rather than just winging it!

We went to the Calder exhibit yesterday and spent way too much time in line, despite having annual passes! If you want to go to any of these shows... get advance tickets. The Deprés was great, though and crowd-free!!! Along the lines of Anne's comments, I've had a theater request from my entourage and went to this site for half price tickets... great in a crise!!! www.ticketac.com
