One of my colleagues is thinking about going to Paris in September. There are great package deals from Montreal on right now, but the hotels offered are not in the central arrondissements. I was wondering if anyone knew which of these would be the better choice:
Quality Hotel Abaca, in the 15th Hotel All Season Paris Bercy in the 12th Hotel Le Royal in the 14th
They are all 3 star so I assume they all offer the same kind of amenities. I'm more concerned with location and which would offer the most convenient location for walking to major sites, being near cafes, restaurants, bakeries, etc. It looks like Le Royal is on the edge of the 6th near Luxembourg, so I'm thinking that one may be OK, but I value your opinions and would appreciate any comments or suggestions.
Thanks guys!

I haven't read the hotel reviews, and I don't have any personal knowledge about any of them...but I did take a "walk" around the neighborhoods on Google maps! I like the Hotel Le Royal area best, lots of shops and bistros, and near Luxemborg. Next would be Quality Hotel Abaca. They're both situated really close to metro lines with good connections to get just about anywhere they'd want to go fairly quickly. I think a first time visitor would be happier with the Le Royal area, especially over Bercy. Just my thoughts!

I did the same as Annette and came to the same conclusions!

Thank you both, that is what I thought from a quick look at the locations of the 3 hotels. I will let her know.

I agree with AnnetteC and Jody about the 14th and 15th being better that the Bercy area which is the least interesting of the 3.
I vote for Hotel Le Royal in the 14th. It looks like a really nice hotel, and we were in the 14th doing errands the other day, and it is a great neighborhood. We wandered around the stores on Général Leclerc and took the time to walk slowly along rue Daguerre, stopping in a café to watch the hustle and bustle. It is a bigger better rue Cler without the tourists. Edgar Quinet has an artists market on Sunday, and there is Montparnasse etc........

I stayed at the Hotel Le Royal last year, the last three nights of a Family tour.. The room was very nice, large, and the bathrooms also. Good a/c and all the other amenties needed.
The location was great in my opinion, just 1/2 block away from La Coupole , and the metro station Vavin( line 4) was literally 25 feet away, just across a street.
I would stay there again ,, but its more then I will normally pay,, I am too cheap,, LOL

Thanks Joan and Slowpoke. The hotel is part of a package available through Transat, air, hotel, breakfast and transfers to and from CDG for $1299 per person, taxes in! My friend has been wanting to go to Paris for a while and this deal may be too good to pass up. I just wanted to help her pick the best hotel out of those offered and everyone has helped me do that. If anyone else has any opinions or suggestions, please post away!

Jo, You didn't mention how many days your friend was staying. I will assume about five days. A hotel in the same area that we've been discussing is called the Five Hotel. It is probably in the same price range. Sometimes you can get better deals than these packages by shopping each component or just knowing what to do when you get to Paris. I go to Paris 4 or 5 times a year. I take either the Air France Bus or the RER from CDG. Then at the metro get a taxi. This saves about 40 euros each way. It's also faster which i appreciate after flying all day. Almost all hotels in this price range will include breakfast and some other amenities. I am partial to the Five Hotel because of the wonderful experiences that I have had there. But I suppose any hotel will do. Booking a hotel from a aggregate site like expedia, doesn't always get you the best price. This is because of the high commissions these sites charge the hotels. There are Paris hotel listing sites that are strictly local and the owner of one of the hotels was saying that he charges less on these because it's a much lower commission structure for the site. How many days is your friend going? I would have her check out various options. I think the site I found the Five Hotel is called wizzyhotels.com, but I recently got an email from the hotel about their new site which is amazingly beautiful. www.thefivehotel-paris.com. Any hotel in the center of Paris is going to put you 10 to 15 minutes maximum away from all of Paris due to the Metro system. Where it is especially important to be located is when someone will be out partying after the hours and don't want to spend a lot of money on taxis and not take the metro. Good luck. -DK

(chuckling) Dk, most of us are 'of a certain age' -- NOT old -- but 'partying after the hours' for most of us means we're up past midnight.
