Hubby and I are going to Paris in July, and I'd booked the Hotel Mansart which looked very attractive. It now looks as if our son will be travelling with us too, so I booked the Mercure Cusset Opera which has good TA reviews and allows children under 16 to stay in the parents' room free of charge. I asked both hotels about an extra bed and additional charges thereof, the Mercure is giving us a Triple at no extra cost, the Mansart is giving us an extra bed in our Superior Double...at no extra cost. They've both been so helpful, I don't know which one to choose. Has anyone stayed in either, or seen them, or heard of them? Location-wise I wanted something fairly close to the Opera Garnier and they both are, so that doesn't help. Any suggestions?

Nothing I'm leaning towards keeping Hotel Mansart, it looks lovely and Place Vendome is Place Vendome. July is a long way off and I don't have to cancel till 5 days ahead so if anyone comes up with anything, or walks past these hotels and has a view on the neighbourhood, please do share!

Have not stayed in either hotel but did look at the Hotel Mansart in 2006 when planning that trip. Selected Relais du Louvre instead for a variety of reasons. I don't know anything about the Mercure. Can you get room layouts to get a sense of how the extra bed will be placed?
July may have some hot and humid days so you may alo want to make note of windows in terms ofnumbers and cross ventilation unless you are getting airconditioning.
Depending on how long you will be in Paris, you might also want to consider an apartment. The one we were staying in this March was a leisuely 15-20 minute walk from Opera Garnier and yet we were in a neighborhood and not in the crowds around the Opera and the department stores.

I would go with the triple, only because it's meant to have three people so probably is a bit larger. (We got a triple at Henri IV Rive Gauche a couple of years ago just to get a larger room than the usual in Paris, and really liked it - plus even the bathroom was big by Paris standards.) I just shudder to think of the usual Paris hotel room with an extra bed jammed in!

I agree with Becky--with 3 people, a standard double room with a roll-away would be pretty tight. The neighborhoods of both hotels seem very similar, so it's hard to choose based on that alone.

Thanks for the replies. We're only going for 2 days so I think an apartment is out. Both have air conditioning, thank goodness. But the deciding factor is of course size, and how right you are, I hadn't considered that an extra bed in a double would be tight, of course a triple will have more room! Sometimes you're looking so hard at things that you miss the obvious. What would I do without OPF? Merci beaucoup
