Maybe everyone knows about Canauxrama cruises already, but I am not sure that everyone has heard about their new Bistrot en Seine cruise. It leaves from the Port de l'Arsenal, at the Bastille métro, at 6pm and 9pm (go to their web site www.canauxrama.com/ and watch the video La Seine - La croisière"Bistrot"). This is the second year, and the boats are still leaving with less than 20 passengers, and usually only 5 to 10. This cruise started last year and after watching it leave port, they moor just across from our barge, with 2, 4 or 6 passengers, we decided to go before everyone found out about it and it became crowded. We took the cruise on an absolutely beautiful spring night, the 9pm cruise is the best, and we were one of maybe 12 people on board. You can see the video we made on our blog livingonabargeinparis.blogspot.com/2008/04/with-boats-moving-again-we-have-been.htmlThey have a bar and with the plastic tables and chairs on the front outside deck you can make yourself very comfortable with a front row seat and a glass of wine or Champagne for the best show in town. First you cruise through the port and then go through the lock before starting out on the Seine. It is a two hour cruise. They also have a Marne cruise that leaves at 9am and comes back at 5pm. We often talk with boating friends about taking this cruise, even though we have all cruised along this same route many times in our own boats. It is always nice to have someone else do the driving and to have a crew to work through the locks. The guinguettes along the Marne are a real treat. www.canauxrama.com/produits/e_fiche7.htmwww.chez-gegene.fr/index.phpWhen we moor at Neuilly-sur-Marne, we love to go to Le Bar de la Marine www.pbase.com/pingupingu/image/87206522

Hi Nancy,
Thanks for this info - I had heard of this cruise but didn't pay that much attention until I read your post. Looks like something fun to do. Also checked your Blog and watched the video. And, looked at your slideshow of your Ireland trip - beautiful pictures and looks like you had a wonderful time.

That looks like a lot of fun. We wanted to do the Canal St Martin cruise but ran out of time.
Everytime I take a picture at Arsenale, especially during the Bastille Brocante, I wonder if I've captured your barge !

Well, as I said, I know everyone knows about Canauxrama cruises, but the Bistrot en Seine is new and goes out night after night with just a few passengers. It is like having your own boat and captain for a cruise along the Seine, and sitting at the front rail, the unobstructed view of Paris rolling by is wonderful.
Sandy M, we had a great time in Ireland. If you ever want to go to Ireland with a group, hiring a mini-van and a charming driver who knows every little back road and pub is definitely the way to go.
Jody, our barge is here during the Brocante, as we are always back in port by then, so you may very well have taken a photo of our boat. We are moored along the quai on the Bd. Bourdon side.
And Phread, I have been following all of your restaurant posts and I am taking notes. Thanks for all of your suggestions and your great descriptions.

That looks great, I hope that the guinguettes have managed to retain some of their spirit that can be spotted in paintings or in old films like Jean Renoir's. And, heu, are you by any chance considering to bring your own cavalier for the afternoon dancing ? 'cause I have a suggestion ;D ...

It's 31 euros (4 euros discount for pre-booking on internet), the full list rate is 35 euros.
Mossie, that's for the cruise. The other thing may be costlier.

That does look fun, Gitte! Will we have to wait 6 months for the details? BTW, I've been enjoying your latest trip reports--thanks!

Oh, Annette - if only you could persuade my boss to give me 2 days off per week, I would be able to keep up with tripreporting. An average tripreport takes anything from 10-12 hours - depending on the number of pictures and on how many silly "detours" I decide to make. And trust me, 10 hours straight at the computer does nasty things to ones lower back arthritis. But now that I am single (hooray !), I may find better time for writing. And more money for painkillers.......

Gitte, count me as another who is really enjoying your reports. I can imagine how much work goes into each one since they are like mini travelogues on the many different facades of Paris. Your pictures are always gorgeous and you show us so many sides of Paris that most people never get to see. I loved the insider look at hotel de ville and BNP and Societe Generale. I remember seeing that BNP building near St Denis, Den took a picture and my caption was something like "THIS is where I want to work!"
I am bound and determined to dine at Josephine Chez Dumonet after reading about your latest meal. Thank you for taking so much time to give us so much pleasure!
An exalt for you, my dear!

Gitte, when are you going on the Marne cruise? Could I invite myself along? I love the Marne and cruise there often on our boat, but I have never cruised on a trip boat, and I think that might be fun. Maybe we could end up at Chez Fifi, my favorite guinguette. You would love Fifi; he never stops smiling, and he is a good dancer too.

Slowpoke, I go on Sunday 25 April. The cruise starts at 9:00. Of course you can participate in the cruise, if you like.
Thanks for the tip re. "Chez Fifi". As to the guinguettes the company suggests: "Gégène" and "le p'tit Robinson", would it be unwise to follow their advice, you think ? Anyway, I don't count on there being much time for dancing in the afternoon, as the boat is supposed to be back in Paris at 17:15 - so I would prefer whichever guinguette serves the best lunch. I am afraid my dancing days are over.
