This morning, shortly before 8, on France Inter (public radio) : Part of the château de Versailles (l'aile des ministres) will be turned into social housing . There will be works to create modern appartments into the palais, and part of the park will be turned into small vegetable gardens for each tenant family . In about 6 months to 1 year, the first low-rent tenants will move in . They interviewed the architect of the project and also one of the future tenant (they even added the small kid pestering his dad while he was talking) . Then there reported about a demonstration of opponents to the project, you could hear them shouting together "VERSAILLE BELONGS TO EVERYONE !!!" . Mind you, I believed all of it ... until they said that it was a poisson d'avril .

Anne, my love - you are simply a too easy victim. I remember once they showed in the 19:30 TV news here in DK (many years ago) an assembly line from a chocolate factory, where they were putting live, yellow, baby-ducklings into chocolate easter eggs and then sealing them. You know as a surprise egg for the kids. You can see the hilarious footage HERE ;D OMG ! The telephone system simply collapsed from the deluge of calls from revolted, furious TV viewers who had believed the story and were now ready to burn down the TV building to the ground !!!

OMG. Thanks for the am laugh. I need an idea for my girls this pm... any hints?
My chocolatier makes chocolate eggs for Easter, using emptied eggs. One morning I served them each a soft boiled egg and they freaked when they opened them to found a brown "rotting egg". They loved that one!

I stopped by Maison du Chocolat on the way home from work and got a small bag of mixte dark and milk chocolat assorted little fish! $14.00 (15.24 with tax!) for 100g/3.5 oz.! Worth every penny, plus I was offered a sample choc or two off of a little silver tray and Madamed right and left! Little slice of Paris!! Plus...no April fool jokes...thought there might be...the contract renewal that I was worried about at work...whether or not our company would get it, what changes, if I would even have a job...so much so that almost didn't go to Paris this winter...and then it was re newed. Well..the renewal came with a substantial raise..effective yesterday..and they didn't yell April Fool!!! ;D ;D ;D

Good for you Geordy, now there can be more and better Paris trips to come. Getting back to the April fool thing, this, I think, was one of the best and oldest. www.bbc.co.uk/nature/life/Spaghetti

Sorry, Denise, Silly US politics..... I f Congress doesn't pass a new Federal Budget by Friday..the Government will "shut down". This means many Federal employees will be put on unpaid furloughs..."non-essentials" Yes the military will still be funded so the wars will go on. The last time it happened in the mid nineties they wound up getting the back pay but rumor has it that wouldn't happen this time So though I'm a "contractor" not a Fed employee...it would apply to us as well...my company is paid with Fed $$! All Fed agencies have to have a plan prepared..lots of whispering and closed doors last week...... An "expert" commented last week that the new "tea party" backed Reps. don't seem to realize this is not Great Britain...if your party gets a majority in the latest election it doesn't mean you take over!! 3 branches of government, checks and balances...... (I once was explaining how that works to an Italian born Israeli @ the Maison du Caviar in Paris after a bunch of champagne..would like to have a tape of that! ;D) www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2011-03-29-shutdown29_ST_N.htm

By the way, why is it called Poisson d'Avril? what has fish got to do with 1st April? Sorry, Denise, Silly US politics..... This would have forced a coalition or a general election here. Can't pass laws without a majority. On the positive front the huge march I took part in last weekend may have had some influence. MP's are said to be rebelling against the Health and social welfare bill which will "reform" the NHS. Now I know how those Parisians feel with their manifestations. Denise love from England
