We just got back last night and so I am a bit jet lagged but I thought I'd at least post this while I can still remember the details.
We stayed in VIP's apartment #42. It is called the Tower view apartment because the Eiffe Tower is visable out of the two windows in the apartment.
Location:This apartment is at the intersection of rue Poissonniere and Blvd Poissonniere. This is technically the 2nd, but barely. The apartment is just behind the REX theater. If you are looking for a cozy village atmosphere this is not for you. This is the heart of the Sentier (Garmet District). Shop after shop of wholesale clothing. Nothing I saw appeared to be locally made or of good quality. The way I looked at it we would not be around much during the day so the immediate nieghborhood was not that much of a priority for me.
On a positive note, the Bonne Novelle Metro was steps away making all of Paris very easy to get to. Walking approximately 3 blocks south was the street Rue Montorguiel. We've stayed there on previous visits and really enjoy eating and shopping there. However, on a few of those cold nights, after 15 miles of walking during the day, trudging up the hill to the apartment was a real pain.
The aparrtment is on the 6th floor. The lobby is nicey kept and has tile and lots of wrought iron. There are two small (not tiny) elevators. Entry to the lobby is with a digicode and then you scanned something on the key fob.
The apartment faces the back of the building so there was no noise from the street what so ever. We could sometimes hear babies next door but never at night. We rearely saw or heard any other residents.
There was scaffolding on the entire building. However, we could still enjoy seeing the tower lit up at night. The workers were at the front of the building when we were there so we were not disturbed by them.
The apartment is a large studio. Approx 400 sq ft. There is a queen size bed and a new sofa sleeper. The furniture and the dishes all appeared to be from IKEA. There was a closet just inside the door which accomodated our hanging things. There is a nice roomy wall unit with plenty of drawers. There are night stands with reading lights on each side of the bed. There are built in book shelves with lots of books in the corner. The bathroon is quite large with a good shower and good lighting, The kitchen is tiny and looks fairly new. I don't do much cooking so it was fine for us. There is a microwave, under the counter frig, a ceramic stovetop, and the washer dryer combo, which I used everyday. There are two large windows in the apartment. Both new and double paned. There is an american drip coffe maker in the kitchen and an electric tea pot.
We learned that thisapatment is owned by an american couple. It was very clean and you could see thay have put a
lot of work into the apartment.
There are only a few things I think can be improved upon. The floor was wooden and although it looked like it had been refinished it really needs to be replaced. It is extremely creaky and there are some uneven spots and gaps. the heating system is the steam radiator type and works too well. So we had to leave the window open since we could not figure out how to turn the heat down or off.
All things considered, I found this to be a very pleasant apartment for a very good price.
