The Sunday Times Travel Supplement on 29th March 2009 ran an article entitled 'Europe on a Budget'. [I would have tried to publish a link but I don't know how to do it ] It recommended the following hotels in Paris, which I have listed below but the article obviously gave more info. The prices quoted are for a double room, based on two sharing and they used an exchange rate of 1.08 Euro to the GBP. Grand Hotel Leveque in the Rue Cler area. Doubles from £64 and Superior Doubles from £100. They recommend asking for a superior room on the fourth or fifth floor. Hotel du Champ de Mars around the corner from Rue Cler is small and charming. Booked up months in advance. Doubles from £88. Hotel Eldorado which lies a block North of Place de Clichy. Gives the impression of being transported back to the age of Coco Chanel. Doubles from £65. Mama Shelter located several Metro stops east of the city centre. An eye-catching new hotel. Compact doubles are equipped with quality beds and linen, Macs and microwaves. Doubles rom £100. Grand Hotel Jeanne d'Arc sits on the southern edge of the Marais. The setting dazzles. Doubles from £82. Hotel du Nord et de l'Est near Place de la Republique. Conservative but classy and sparkingly clean. Doubles from £92.

Laura thanks for posting the link - In future I'll have a go using your instructions. I'm so looking forward to going to Paris next week to remind myself what a beautiful city looks like minus all the ongoing tram work. When I am in the centre of Edinburgh, I spare a thought for the tourists and wonder what they make of it all!

Fiona - as a recent tourist to Edinburgh I can tell you that I thought it was fantastic and a beautiful looking city even with the tramwork. In fact it is in my top three cities to visit

Megan - I am presuming that Paris is also on your list, so which is the other? If you are in Edinburgh again please let me know and we can meet up and perhaps Laura would join us. Fingers crossed for your job!

Hi Fiona and Megan An Edinburgh GTG, now that is a good idea! Like Fiona I had been wondering what tourists were making of our lovely city with SO many roadworks as we prepare for the re-introduction of trams, so I am delighted we make it into Megan's top three! ;D When I was in Paris last summer we stayed near the T3 tramline. The lady who owns the house we stayed in told me that they too suffered never ending roadworks in preparation for their trams, but she also said that it was worth it. I hope that we will feel the same way in two years time. Laura x

Megan - that means that I very much need a trip to Wellington as I have either lived in or visited the others. Denise knows that she has an open invitation to visit Edinburgh so just name the date. I'd love to meet Mossie also but I'm not sure that he can add any further females to his present following! If none of you three can make it I suppose Laura and I will have to be content with an Edinburgh GTG for two.

Sorry Fiona, but Edinburgh is far too far North for my metabolism to be able to stand the journey.
