I have another probably dumb question, I was reading that anytime you travel you should make sure your vaccinations are current. Are there any certain vaccinations I need and do I need to carry proof of them to travel to France from the US?

The only thing the French passport control will want to see is your passport and half the time they barely look at it.

It's mostly a good-sense recommendation -- it's always best to keep all your vaccinations up to date! Tetanus, especially -- simply because not only is it a pain to have to go get the stitches needed when you cut yourself on something nasty, but you now have the achy pain of a tetanus shot to go along with it.
No one asks about your immunizations -- until you move completely -- then you get a grilling, but they still don't ask to see proof!

It is sensible to have a tetanus jab up to date wherever you live in the world, even the good ole USA is not safe. The only other jab you will need is an anti-Paris one, to prevent you becoming hopelessly addicted, as many sufferers on this forum are, me included.

Thanks, I didn't figure you did, but I had this sudden fear since our trip is two days away of getting over there and not being allowed in. I do that weird panic thing sometimes....

Windy, I think we all do that weird panic things sometimes when we're leaving home for a vacation. Mine is usually associated with that oh-my-God-did-I-turn-the-iron-off sort of thing on the way to the airport. Happy travels!
