Hello all. I need help with 2 translations. They come from 2 cartoons by Honore Daumier that featured in French mewspapers in the mid 1800s. Translation 1: Setting the scene - Man A is walking on a paved street. He bends down to talk to Man B whose basement apartment window is right at footpath level. (see cs.nga.gov.au/Detail.cfm?IRN=75528 for a picture) Man A: Eh! Bien, Monsieur Gendrouillet, comment-vous trouvez-vous dans votre noveau logement? (Did I miss writing something between the comment-vous and trouvez-vous? Should there have been a full stop between the two?) Man B: Mais, pas trop mal - sauf les rhumatismes et les champignons My rough interpretation Person A: Hello Monsieur Gendrouillet. How are you? How's your new house/home? Person B: I'm not too bad except for the rhumatism and - I know champigons are mushrooms but can it also mean fungus or mildew? Translation 2 Setting the scene - Man & Woman are sitting in their basement level apartment and looking up and through the window that is at footpath level. All they can see are people's feet and legs. (See cs.nga.gov.au/Detail.cfm?IRN=75500 for a picture) Man to Woman: Agreable vue dont joiussent les locaires des sous-sols I imagine they are talking about what they see but apart from that, I am clueless. Thanks for your help!

champignons are are fungi... in France that covers athlete's foot, yeast infections AND mushrooms.
"The lovely view of basement tenants." When I work international clients, we call it adapting instead of translating. I have given what would be written in an English caption to convey the same message. The word for word would be something like, "Pleasant view which is enjoyed by the tenants of basements."

"Comment vous trouvez-vous dans votre nouveau logement ?" There is no hyphen between "comment" and "vous", and there is no full stop missing in the sentence . How do you feel in your new home ?
"Agréable vue dont jouissent exclusivement les locataires des sous-sols" "Exclusivement" means that the pleasant view is enjoyed solely by the tenants of the basement, as if it were a very desirable and exclusive residence . All the irony of the caption comes from this word .

I am guessing that the word exclusivement was on the link.
