I've always wanted to know who actually WEARS most of what sashays down the runways.
and why the designers hate women so much.

;DI just MUST get a golden banana! I never understand why designers display their clothes on 6foot size 6 models, who are not your average woman. I would be much more likely to buy clothes if I could see what they look like on normal women who have hips and breasts. ( with apologies to anyone who is 6 ft and size 6, but you must admit there are not many of you about!) All this name changing is causing me confusion. Is Jody AKA demarais? Denise Love from England

;DI just MUST get a golden banana! Here, Denise -- here's a whole skirt made of 'em! www.mookychick.co.uk/icon/josephine_baker.phpIf you ever get the chance to visit Chateau de Milandes in the Dordogne, please do -- Josephine Baker was so much more than a pretty face in an exotic costume.

Runway shows aren't meant to illustrate what the average woman is expected to wear. They're meant entirely to show off the full creative range of a designer's aesthetic.
Haute couture inspires ready-to-wear by suggesting new ideas (or repeated ideas due for a comeback). If Balenciaga sends a gown down the runway that has mouton sleeves sticking up above the top of the model's head, the ready-to-wear lines will soon be showing slightly puffed sleeves. If the men's shirts are mere strips of leather and and fabric barely hanging on to an otherwise naked chest, the ready-to-wear shirts will simply have a very low-cut neckline.
And more than anything else, the runway shows are intended to make people talk and to keep French fashion in the forefront. Since we're discussing them on this forum, it must have worked, huh?

Truffy - I understand what you're saying, but still....... Let's face it.......those outfits look like costumes, which actually suits today's atmosphere in Israel because we are celebrating a holiday called Purim, a day when people get dressed up in costumes. ;D

Truffaut, I know what you are trying to say also and I also realise what the designers are trying to do, but I think the "full creative range of the designers aesthetic" would much better be served by the challenge of showing clothes on real women. Lets face it , these models could wear a bin bag and it would look good. Vivienne Westwood attempted to clothe real women with her clothes, at least they attempted to show off some curves and celebrate them. I suppose the REAL talent and creativity is translating the trends by the ready to wear producers to something we all can wear and transferring it to the high street. Love Denise xx

That is the joy and beauty of the shows... they are not real. A wonderful distraction from reality. And a reaction to the moment, just like art.
