What can anyone tell me about this hotel? I have read reviews on Travel Advisor and reviews are mixed (as they always are). I got a price of 119 euros per night for an Executive Room with a king sized bed.
I realize the location is a little further out and we'll have to navigate the metro but it seems like a decent price.
Our trip is mid May and my first one there, I am looking forward to the trip!

Wow, that's coming up soon! I don't personally know this hotel although of course that's a high end chain (at least, in the US). I have mixed thoughts about this. On the one hand, that's a good price - on the other hand, one reason it's a good price is that it's not very central. My own thought, since this is your first trip, is that you will want to be in an area where you can walk to everything. You aren't likely to do as well on price, however, so it partly depends on how important that is to you. Whatever you're going to do, it would be a good idea to get that settled soon. (Welcome to the forum, by the way! )

Méridien is a high end chain in France too and you got an excellent price . Yes, the Montparnasse area isn't really glamorous and it is not very central BUT, since Montparnasse is a train station, it has excellent métro connections, no less than four different lines which is very convenient to travel all over Paris . There are also many restaurants around . As Becky says, you have to decide what matters the most for you .

I stayed there quite a few years back when I was less familiar with the City. Clean, modern, but even though it is a French chain..which I thought would help..no 'French feel" when in the hotel you could be in any hotel chain anywhere. Smallish windows, (no sheers blowing in the French Doors ) but depending upon what side of the hotel and how high up you could get a view. The mini bar was not like a little fridge..more like a vending machine! You didn't need to put in change (!) but you couldn't use it for any of your own items. Breakfast room like that of any big city , big hotel... Bars and other restaurants on premises. Again..depends on what you are looking for not that charming little Paris hotel but then again all of those aren't so charming either. Location....you've got the Brasseries of Montparnaasse..and movie theatres, creperies...Montparnasse cemetary Near by metro lines as I recall...and the Big train Station and Galleria Lafayette and shopping mall.

A friend of mine stayed there last year. When I asked how she liked the hotel she said it was fine. We've walked by there many times and it is a large hotel with doormen and seems to cater to some tour companies.

Thanks for the insight into the hotel. I would have loved to have rented an apartment and was looking at some that a friend used when she went a year ago...but I have a very anal husband who has a brother that was not helping the situation and they said that French standard are different from US standards and it was easier to just book a hotel and pick another battle for the trip. I'm sure you can understand I'd rather have a hubby that was happy then being a grouch on the trip!
The upside is that it is right by a metro station and we plan to get a metro pass since we plan to be going all over the town in the time we have.
Leslie PS thanks for the welcome Becky!
