Den and I are thinking of going to see Simply Red at the Olympia while we are in Paris. The only tickets left are standing in the orchestra section.
Has anyone been to this hall? Would you recommend standing through a concert for 2 (late)40-somethings? We both really love Simply Red and saw them in Montreal about 10 years ago. Apparently this is their farewell tour and we would love to see them again, I just don't know if it's the right venue for us.
Thanks,
Jo

My husband loves them too, and when I told him about this concert, he was intrigued and is thinking about us heading to Paris a day earlier than planned in order to catch it. But I don't know about standing up all night!

I have never been at the Olympia but it's probably the most famous music hall in Paris, a mythic one for all the famous singers who have performed there .
My husband (45) went to a concert near our place last month (the Stranglers) and he had no problem standing through the concert . I was planned to go too, had my ticket and everything, but since I was just slowly coming out of the flu, I knew that standing up all evening, plus the loud music, would be far too much for me so I decided not to join . But standing up through the evening had not bothered me when we booked the tickets .

Well, it appears that there are still tickets for the May 28 show (45 euros each on the FNAC website). I know my hubby really wants to go, he is going to the ballet with me the week before, I guess I can stand for a couple of hours to hear one of our favourite singers. Thanks for your thoughts Anne, you've probably given me the push to buy the tickets. Annette, maybe we'll see you there!

I would definitely go!! I've been wanting to go to a concert there for some time(ages ago our hotel was near there and a guy from Johnny Halliday's band was drinking with us at the hotel bar!(Yes he was playing there..obviously sold out.) Later saw the band guy in a JH video on TV!) but whenever I've been in Paris there are either no shows, sold out or nothing we would like to see. As for standing/age issue....don't you always feel a bit friskier in Paris? ;D

Well, I just bought our 2 tickets. Be careful when you look for tickets, many sites have inflated prices for concerts. I used the FNAC site and the tickets are 45 euros, the same price listed on the Olympia site. It was a very easy process to register and buy the tickets, we will pick them up at a FNAC outlet once we are in Paris.
So now we have 2 great events to go to, a ballet at Garnier the first week and Simply Red the second week. Only 67 more days.......come on, May 15!

Oh, that's exciting Jo! It would be fun to see you guys there! We still haven't pulled the trigger on plane tickets, so I don't know if we'll be there in time for the concert yet or not. And since we'll just be arriving that day if we do attend, I'm not sure if we'll have time to pick tickets up anywhere--I'll have to check and see if the other booking sites will mail the tickets. There are 3 things in my favor now for going a day earlier tho--the concert; we have free nights coming at Marriott; and our preferred airline flies the day before but not the day we originally planned to go. Only problem is convincing hubby to take one more day off work, which means he has to cancel even more meetings. We need to make a decision this weekend!!

I would say this is a good idea if you want to see the group - two or three years ago I got tickets to Barenaked Ladies because Joe particularly likes the group and the mostly 20s-30s crowd irked me unbelievably by standing the whole time (not dancing, just standing) so we might as well have gotten standing room tickets since we couldn't see anything if we actually sat in our seats! (And yes, I'm still annoyed! )

No Simply Red concert for us I've booked our flights and we won't arrive until the next day. But there are plenty of other diversions to keep us busy and happy
