Yeah, we just booked tickets to see the final performance of Onegin at the Opera Garnier for May 20!! We are so excited that we will get the chance to see a ballet (and live orchestra) at Garnier. We would like to go out to a nice dinner after the performance. Does anyone have any recommendations for that area? A friend recommended Le Saint Amour, a tiny place he went to 2 years ago, but when I do a search, I think it has since closed. I don't think I'm interested in Cafe de la Paix unless someone has really good opinions of it, from what I've read, it's overpriced and full of tourists (yes, I know we are tourists, but we would like to find a nice local place to eat). Since we'll be all dressed up, we'd like a nice place, budget of about 100-120 euros with wine. Goumard and Gallopin look like they might be OK, has anyone been to either of those? Ooohhh, can't wait!! ;D Thanks for any suggestions..............Jo edited to add.......oops, I think Goumard might be out of our price range from looking at Zagats and Pudlo. Back to the drawing board...........

Have been to Goumard in 2006 and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. I would have to go back and check Journal for cost but I seem to recall it was somewhere about 120 euros for two. Is your performance matinee? I don't know how late Goumard is open for dinner so if an evening performance you could be too late for a nice leisurely meal.
We have an evening erformance in March at Opera Garnier and plan on having our main meal at lunch. Going to the performance which starts at 7:30 P.M. and then finding someplace for a light meal afterwards largely because if we get out around 9:30 or 10, I would not want a lot of food. Will be looking at Zagat's Paris for places in that area and will post when we return at the end of March.

David and I had dinner with some people from the Fodor's forum at Gallopin last November. It is lovely inside and the food was quitegood and reasonable. We had the 35 euro menu that included a half bottle of wine per person and 3 courses.

Thank you both. Holger, I'll look for your review in March.
Please keep those suggestions coming!

Desmarais, how far from the Opera would you say Gallopin is? Is it walkable? Merci.

I would walk south a few blocks to the Marche St. Honore. There are almost a dozen restaurants available in that pleasant square. One of my favorites is ROUGE. Also Cafe Bennett, Fuxia (Italian) and Little Georgette. Also Point Bar for a small intimate setting.
Directions: Take Ave. de l'Opera to rue St. Roch. Immediate right to rue Gombost which is the northern leg of the Square.

Jo, Gallopin was the site of the original OPF Wild Women get together last fall, and Willow dined there this past New Year's Eve. A quick search will get you lots of info and some pictures I'm jealous of your ballet tickets!

Annette, I just spend the past 30 minutes reading up on Gallopin. It sounds perfect! Gitte and Lilla's pictures had me salivating. Does anyone know how far a walk it would be from L'Opera?
Patestore, thanks for the recommendations for Marche St Honore as well. Ah, decisions, decisions (but decisions of the very best kind!) I've heard of Rouge and will look it up, as well as the others, on my Zagats and Pudlos.

Just got our opera tickets in the mail today and Anne has graciously made reservations for us at Gallopin for dinner afterwards. This evening will probably one of the highlights of this year's trip.
Yippee...............
