Hi, I'm so glad I found this site. TA has been so helpful too - with their help I avoided what now seem like a dodgy rental. I have now found 2 alternatives but cannot find anyone who has rented either. One has homeowner listed reviews and the other has none. One is www.vrbo.com/216748 - 34 rue Saint louis en l'ile 75004 The other is www.vrbo.com/161541 - 10 rue Saint louis en l'ile 75004 Both are available. The owners of both have been very helpful, particularly the first one. I hope someone has stayed in them and can give me some feedback. I'm off to bed now as it is after midniight in Australia. I hope there will be news in the morning. Thank you.

Hi Lusoti ! Welcome to the forum! I hope you get the information that you are looking for. I'm sorry that I personally can't be of any help except to say is that both apts. are in the vicinity of the Berthillon ice-cream parlor that I love so much.

From the perspective of a rental apartment owner, I think either one looks like a good value considering the neighborhood. I note that one claims to sleep 4 people, but I'd personally find that to be too many people for a studio apartment.

Lusoti, I'm not familiar with either of these rentals either, but they do occupy a prime location. I'll be staying on the island during our next trip in 4 months. Is this your first visit to Paris? Welcome to the forum!

Lusoti - hi, and welcome to the forum.
I agree with the comments above - I think sometimes you have to trust your instincts, and I think that the fact that the owners have been responsive is a very good sign. Have fun on the island, it's my favorite part of Paris (that I've tried, that is) as an apartment location.
P.S. The only hesitation I have about the first of these is its location in a "former building"! ;D

Hi Lusoti and welcome!
I haven't rented either apt but agree with the above comments.
The first apt has no elevator (not surprising on the island) but it doesn't say what floor it's on, or did I miss that info? The second apt is on the second floor, so two flights of stairs to climb. I'd want to know which floor the first apt is on before renting it.

I do like the 2nd apartment's decor. However, I would agree that you should check out what floor the 1st one is on and whether there is a lift.
You might want to check Vacation in Paris for the location. They price in dollars and are a reputable agency.
Is the Isabelle of apartment number 2 the person receiving criticism on TA for promoting her own apartments?

Thanks.
I'm reasonably sure that it is not the same Isabelle. Someone on TA also checked and compared apartments and doesn't think so either.
One is on the second floor, the other on the 4th - no elevator for either! The family assure me that they don't mind carrying the luggage up. And more daughter with CFS/ME says she will just take it slowly - she may only have to go up them once a day.
The studio one does seem a bit cramped. The other appears bigger but I will ask about sqm.
The courtyard one is probably quieter but we will be out most of the time. I will ask about the time the street cleaners start.
I'll also ask for an explanation about "former building".
One has no reviews but the manager says he hasn't been managing it yet. I have done a search on him and Regis seems to have managed apartments on several sites for a few years - good reviews about his service.
Both have been great about responding to my emails so far.
By the way, I love the spell check facility. I hate doing typos and am currently doing many as I'm not used to this smaller keyboard yet.

I'll also ask for an explanation about "former building". Don't bother, it's only a translation mistake . People wanted to translate "immeuble ancien", and, depending on the circumstances, "ancien" can mean either "old" or "former", they just happened to pick the wrong one ...

If anyone in your party has physical limitations, then take the 2nd floor property.
A friend of ours lives in a 5th floor flat, and my bum knee makes me stop about the 3rd floor until it stops quivering (and our house is 3 stories, so I'm used to going up and down stairs all the time).
Those stairs will seem like Mt. Everest when you come back knackered from a day of walking. The last thing you want is for your daughter to not want to go out because it means she has to come back up the stairs.

Stairs in Parisian buildings are inexplicably difficult to climb. I'm accustomed to literally running up and down four flights of stairs repeatedly as part of a regular gym workout, but just one trip walking on the typical Paris apartment stairway is tiring. I've never really figured out the explanation (a different pitch, narrower treads, uneven wear that makes them angled, the winding style?)

Well, that would explain finding oneself in a crumpled pile at the bottom landing, but not being out of breath at the top!
