Hello Everyone! I haven't posted in ages but I check in on you guys all the time. I couldn't resist putting in my annual plug for the Salon de l'Agriculture, February 21 - March 1 at Porte de Versailles. I've been to this event a few times, and think it's great fun for visitors to Paris who have done all the A and B list sites and are ready to do a little something different. Wish I were going myself! Here's the link: www.salon-agriculture.com/I was on a great roll for several years, going to Paris every six months or so. I'm sad to say that I haven't been in the last eighteen months, but it's been a pleasure to read trip reports here and imagine myself there! Bonne Annee to you all from Georgia, Aude

Nice to see you Aude....and I'd definitely like to drop by the Faire but alas I leave Paris on Feb. 18. Then again if I did go I'd have to check the been around livestock box and then Lord knows what would happen! I know how you feel...my roll was 4 times a year, quickly went to three, and now I'm lucky to be keeping it at 2 shorter trips!

Thank you, Aude! Looks like this is a good place for me to explore-- I'm just now working on plans for my potager this year (and I think mon petit garcon might get a kick out of the animals).

I'm going to the Salon d'Agriculture this year. I unwisely allowed my SO and LuckyLuc to talk me out of it last year, but this year I'm going to get my fill of vaches, cochons, poules, chevres, and whatever else they have on tap!

I have feeling that I'll be in for a VIP visit this year. The thing that impressd me the most were the cows. HUGE. Some were the size of desert elephants. And the butchers' auction. Cool. Even cooler when I went to the butcher the following week and he had a photo of the cow he had purchased with its name and the accompanying meat!!! I was very thankful not ot be the person who had to wipe the behinds of all the cows who were in competition.

Being France and all, one might think they'd have "vache bidets" ;D

How come I can't really get a clear mental picture of you, our sophisticated, antique-dealing, to-perfection-macaron-baking, opera-concerto-singing Truffaut, wearing big rubber boots with cow dung stuck to the soles, sagging overalls and a greasy John Deere cap - kicking tractor wheels, checking out milk cow udders and engaging in passionate discussions about the latest combined harvester models......... ;D ;D

Gitte How about the cowman who has to assist in the breeched birth. Perhaps someone else will be good enough to explain

Not me, mossie -- I grew up in farmland...so I need no explanation at all.

Mossie, anyone who watched "All Creatures" (it played constantly for years in the US) knows all about that procedures . . . . in (much too) graphic detail . . . .

Did you know that you can get in free? Just bring your passport and enter through gate V. There will be signs saying visiteur international and a small building just in front of Hall 1. You will just fill out an easy form, and voila you walk right in and you have the right to stop in an have a coffee and a rest in the Club d’Affaires International whenever you like. (They do not make a fuss about the business card mentioned below.

What wonderful news. The savings will be just enough for a flute of champagne later!
