As Luc mentioned, this is something that we old timers know but perhaps not everyone does. Many of the museums in Paris are free on the first Sunday of the month. Now probably a lot of people will say, Yeah, but they are so crowded and it takes forever to get in! Not so. It took me less than 10 minutes to get into the Louvre on a first Sunday and most of that time was spent going through security. Try it! Edit: Thanks, Truffaut for creating this section! An exalt for you coming right up!

I know, I know, everyone will tell you to purchase a Museum pass to bypass the lines. But do you really want to spend 8 or 10 hours a day in a museum to get your money's worth. After a few hours my eyes start to cross and I develop a severe case of Stendahl Syndrome.
I've not ever waited in too long a line. For the Louvre, go into the Carousel de Louvre, buy your ticket at the machine and get right in. For other venues , go to the nearest FNAC and buy your ticket. You might pay a euro or 2 more but it is worth it. I wish I;d taken my own advice with the new show at the JAcquemart-Andre last month.
