I ended up sending my bag with a longer strap home. I just can't get used to the 'hands free' feeling and felt like I constantly need to hold onto the bag or have it in front of me which I found annoying.
In the end I used a handbag which I bought in Paris and then swapped it with a handbag I bought in NYC - lol.
I was really tempted to buy a bag from Gucci while in Boston but could not justify the expense - it was enough to buy a plane ticket back to Europe - but it was beautiful... (I would put in a drool emoticon here if one existed) ;D

it does have a zipper in the back
shoesy, but the one on the flap makes up for it. It's where i only keep my comb and keys at home but for travel a map or hand wipes whatever is necessary at the moment without opening the bag

After many trials, I am now traveling with a Le Sportsac too. It is muliti colored so it will go with just about anything and it is light weight and has lots of storage. I agree that the hands free feeling does take some getting used too. I have had a few moments of panic.

Yipee. My new Sport Sac arrived today and I will start transfering items to it. Wonderful Meow print! It is a Courier style , essentially a Messenger bag. There is a large zippered pocket on the top flap. Under the flap, there is an open pocket and a small zipped one. Large inside zipper and I am looking forward to the adjustable strap so I can wear it across my chest. If it works as I hope, it will be going to Paris with me in March.

Use it in good health, Holger. For anyone interested, I've just noticed that lesportsac.com is having a January sale, whereby selected patterns are 25% off. That means it's even cheaper than my ebay purchase. www.lesportsac.com/external/whats_new.html

There are so many good deals in the US even at full price that it's a shame I can't take advantage of them.

Matt - I like the fact that your bag comes in many colors.

ETA: it looks like it isn't good on everything I'm going to have to find a bag because what I carry now can't be worn like a courier bag. I prefer the hands free feeling when traveling and could bring something small for a nice dinner out

mez, I wish I had known you were coming to Boston. I would have taken you to Filen's basement where you can buy high end goods at a fraction of the original price.

Cigalechanta, Never fear! I found it myself. Boston was my last stop befroe heading home and I was embarassed by the weight of my luggage - the check in lady at the airport really thought her scale was broken when I placed my bag on it. After writing so many trip reports I never got around to the Boston one. Somehow I felt bad about not doing the city justice. I developed a cold on my first full day which slowed me down considerably. Megan, since you are only across the pond, try and get to Boston - it's a wonderful city. There is enough shopping for anyone and the number of museums and galleries are plentiful. The Fine Arts museum was a major 'wow' moment for me - even though I only saw a fraction of it. I am definitely not finished with Boston yet.

My bag is similar to this www.pacsafe.com/www/index.php?_room=3&_action=detail&id=133 in design of the actual bag. It is leather, though, and it has a belt loop on the back. It also came with a leather belt with a zipper pocket on the back side for hiding cash. It fits my little digital camera, my little flat cell phone (a razr) in the front pocket, and a zipper pocket on the front under the flap holds a couple credit cards and some cash. I found it in London back in college, and I use it all the time for various trips. Sadly, it's wearing out so I guess I will soon have to hunt down replacement.
