Since my trip is less than a month away!!!! ;D I was just wondering what everyone's suggestions would be for what type of bag or purse to carry while out sightseeing.

I plan to take my Lesportsac Everyday Deluxe bag. It's very lightweight and is divided into a number of compartments.

I always use a lightweight (nylon or microfiber; not leather, it's heavy!) rather small bag with a long strap that goes across my body. This leaves my hands free. It also lets me keep the bag close to my body while on the metro. I've never had a problem with pickpockets, but everyone knows they're RAMPANT in Paris If you plan on a lot of walking you don't want a heavy bag with lots of stuff in it to lug around all day. Be judicious about what goes in it. Wallet, a pack of tissue, a lipstick, your map and your keys. That's all I carry with me on a daily basis when traveling. You know what you can't live without...Happy travels!

Willow, my bag looks remarkably like yours, but it's not a Pacsafe. It doesn't have the case on the end for eyeglasses, but other than that, it looks a lot like yours. It works for me

Thanks so much for all the responses!!! I've been searching for a few weeks now, but haven't found anything I really like. I'll definitely take all of your suggestions into consideration.
And yes Desmarais, I have lived here all my life (except for the 4 years away at college), but I really love it! It's such a great city. My entire family extended family lives here also.

It works for me I love that bag...I used it for school for awhile and my old job before I had to carry a laptop. It's slim and very functional. Lightweight but durable and for peace of mind it has some "anti-theft" features.

Willow, I bought that same bag 2 years ago when my expensive leather bag tore only a few months after I bought it.
2 years on, I still carry it -- I have the black one, and I love it because it's a well-designed, well-made handbag. The fact that it can't be slashed or the straps cut is just icing on the cake -- I'm already thinking about buying another one in tan for summer.
All the pockets are where they should be, and it even carries a little mom stuff -- kleenex, bandaids, hand wash -- without making me feel like a pack mule.
And it's great to be able to quickly change it from being a single-shoulder bag to bandolier-style.

:)Hi Mjcm...I bought this bag in the sale at Debenhams to take to Paris. Now I have decided to ditch all the rubbish I usually carry. ( rescus equipment and drugs etc! : It fits money, passport, phone, lipstick and camera. Love it , love it, it goes comfortably accross me and it's such freedom not to cart all the stuff I had in a big bag, which gave me a sore shoulder and headache! I think, for women, bag contents expand to fit the bag allotted. Love denise

I choose microfiber as it is so light. Mine is small enough to be comfortable but still big enough to carry the smallest Totes umbrella. It has two outside pockets which close with velcro and the purse portion zips.
I also carry a change purse as the 1 & 2 Euro and centimes (sic)are coins.
I do however a large mesh tote (folds up) that I use for purchases that I can carry over shoulder or by hand (depends on weight).

Denise, I love that bag. It looks just like something I would carry. I have a black leather Hobo that is similar, small and fits everthing I need (including my Streetwise paris map.. ;D), I have carried that on all four trips and it is perfect.
Cheers.

My bag is a Derek Alexander, nylon, black, long adjustable strap( thick woven nylon, I think), it zips up and has a flap that goes over top and "clicks" in,, it is nigh on impossible to get into it without anyone feeling it. It looks similar to a "messenger" type bag, but is perhaps not as large. It does fit a small umbrella in outside pocket, and has serveral inner mesh zippered compartments. I absolutely adore it.. I can even squish my windbreaker into it if I have to..
It cost me about 50 dollars three years ago,, and worth three times that.
Good tip about avoiding leather because of the weight, my bag is ultra light, but very strong.
I have on occasion packed a tiny elegant clutch purse for fancy dinners out. They take no room in suitcase as I just stuff if with a pair of socks or whatever, and its only as big as small paperback .

I have generally traveled with a large, good leather bag usually the same ones I use for work. Recently, my shoulder has been giving me trouble
Inspired by Shoesy and others I have just ordered the Le sport sac Courier Bag. Yes i know it is large but old habits die hard. Also ordered it in the Meow Print as a cat lover. Won't be terribly chic in March but hopefully it will lighten the load. Will take a smaller leather bag in ship through for dressier occasions like ballet at Opera Garnier.

This is what I use for travel. I bought mine several years ago when it first came out in Black. It has four zipper compartments, The beauty of it that it's fine with rain or snow. lightweight and I've washed it over and over. www.mydesignerbrands.com/prgrmebagbt.html

That's a very nice bag, Mimi. Nice sale price too. The only thing it seems to be lacking, which is essential for me, is a zipper in the back.
