:)Some friends of ours have just told us that they had their luggage stolen from the boot (trunk) of their hire car on a recent trip to France. They had stopped for a meal and when they returned they found that the thieves had smashed the back window of the car and accessed the boot through the rear seat. Their travel insurance company has refused to pay out because the luggage was "left unattended and therefore not secure" Presumably luggage is ony insured against theft if it is stolen whilst you are looking at it! Furthermore they lost the excess on the hirecar because of the damage to the car. A colleague at work had her claim for medical expenses denied after she slipped and fractured her wrist because she had had ONE glass of wine at lunch. (she is not a big drinker and was not drunk). Most policies have a get out clause for injuries sustained "under the influence of alcohol". Given that most people enjoy a drink on holiday this negates most peoples policies. I just wondered has anyone claimed on their travel insurance recently and what was their experience?. It seems that travel insurance policies are not worth the paper they are written on! I have no direct knowledge of this, but from hearsay, it would appear that insurance companies nowadays try every trick in the book to avoid paying out. Now I find it impossible to get travel insurance at a reasonable price because of my age . So I just take a chance, had to anyway when I was in the RAF, as we were denied life insurance then for some obscure reason ;D

Touching wood here, I have never claimed. I get insurance on the assumption that if I don't have it, I'll need it!
