Running at the Ecole des Beaux Arts now until Nov. 23. Academia: Qui est-tu?
First, you enter through the monumental courtyard of the Ecole des Beaux Arts, then head under the painted, Italo-renaissances arches of the inner courtyard to the Chapel of the Ecole. Inside you will find Javanese wood sculpture, Roman jewely, sarcophagi of knights and ladies, narwhal horns and buddahs. Among all of this are by Picasso, Fontana, Vuillard, Maplethorpe Avedon, Op de Beeck, Kapoor, Degas, Bourgeois, Twombly, Yves Klein and SO MANY others! The ancient plays off the modern, with little mise en scenes on portraiture, perspective, time and movement.
It was a really stupendous collection displayed in an astounding way. If you are at all fortunate enough to be in town while this show is on, I'd make it my first priority. I am going back with my girls, it was that good!!!
Tomorrow, look for my review of Les Nuits Blanches...

Phread, I'll be there shortly with my 3 friends. We'll be doing all the "first timer" stuff and I'm having a hard time juggling everything I want to show them...but if you insist , I will squeeze this one onto the list! I'm not finding anything about opening days/hours online or in my guidebooks. Do you happen to know when it's open?

Nope you would not find it in a guide book, as this place is rarely open. Online it was even a challenge, but I did find this in the school's site: 13h à 19h, ouvert du Lundi au Dimanche – Tickets: 8€/5€ Monday to Sunday from 1pm to 7pm. ENjoy!

Thanks Phread, I've always wanted to see the building up close and this will make it even better

Thanks for the info, Phread. Yeah, all I could find about the place in my books and online were references to it being a school, so of course no hours listed. My husband will be disappointed he's not going to be there this time--the architecture offerings of their program had gotten it highlighted in our book for a look-see.

Thanks for the great idea. This had not appeared on my radar.
