Does anyone have any hotel recommendations for Boston?
I've been checking out the reviews on TA but the top 10 hotels all have glowing reviews lately, that it's hard to differentiate between them.
I will be at the hotel for 5 nights and since this will be the last week of my 5 week trip (and I am staying in the tiniest room in NYC for 10 nights before this) a little space and some luxury would be welcome.
I already have a booking (at the Marriott Copley Place) but I just wanted some additional input from others that may have visited...and who better than the folks here? ;D
Thanks in advance, Mez.

Hi Mez,
I'm sure that others will chime in (happygoin?), but I lived in Boston for many years so I wanted to give you my 2 cents. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the interior of the hotels since I stay with friends whenever I go back to visit, but I checked out the reviews on TA and I have to say that the Marriott at Copley Place is an excellent location. It's in the Back Bay, right next to my old neighborhood the South End. I would recommend staying there as opposed to the more "downtown" hotels. There are many great restaurants/cafes near there, and the neighborhoods are great for walking. There's Copley Place and Newbury Street for great shopping (the best in Boston), and you are within walking distance of the Public Garden and the Boston Common. The subway system (called the "T") is very easy to use and you are close to several major stops. From there you can easily hop the T to go to Cambridge (across the river). Oh, and you can walk to a great biking/jogging/walking path that follows the Charles River, called the Esplanade. It's beautiful - I used to ride my bike there every day. And it's home to the Hatch Shell, where the Boston Pops play every 4th of July. It's beautiful to see all the sailboats on the Charles, with the city in the background...
I'd be happy to answer any other questions. Besides Paris, Boston is one of my favorite places in the world.

I visited Boston once, and that might have been the hotel I stayed in. If it's right near Lord & Taylor's, then that's the one. I was very satisfied with the hotel and the location.

Yes Shoesy, I think that's the one! I think that they've renovated it a few times too...

I remember that the water pressure in the shower was the best I had ever encountered. I was sharing a room with my daughter and my cousin, and there was a time when we were running behind schedule and all three of us needed to take a very fast shower. Because of the super water pressure, we were able to shower in minutes.

Shoesy, I bet that's the one--we could see Lord & Taylor's out our window when we stayed at the Marriott Copley Place this past May. I wouldn't call our room especially "luxurious", but it was very nice and roomy. We had a King bed, and there was an overstuffed chair by the window and a desk, with plenty of room to walk around. We really enjoyed the location--as Sis said, it's walking distance to many places you'll want to visit. While hubby was at his convention, I walked around by myself and had plenty to keep me busy. We had quite a bit of rain, so it was nice to be able to get out and about while staying dry inside the connected mall (with a T station). I was pleased with our hotel selection. But....if you really want "luxury", we took a spin thru the Fairmont Copley Place and got dizzy It is a gorgeous hotel, just a block away from the Marriott. www.fairmont.com/copleyplaza/Photos/

I loved being able to hop over to Lord & Taylor's first thing in the morning while I was waiting for my sleepyhead roommates to get ready. ;D

Beleive me Annette, after the shoebox I am staying in in NY, the Marriott will be the height of luxury! I don't know why I am second-guessing myself...I seemed to be all set with most of my plans, but as I get closer to the start of my trip I am starting to question everything I have planned to date! I love Lord & Taylor...I spent loads of time there when I was in NY last year. Thsi year I can get a double dose - NYC & Boston.

Mez, are you happy with everything you hear about the Marriott Copley? Price too? If so, then I'd urge you to stay with it. It is in a good location to tour Boston by foot. If you really do want other reco's I'm happy to oblige. Btw, the Marriott is an easy walk to one of my favorite French bistros in Boston, Brasserie Jo at the Colonnade Hotel. Sistereurope and Annette and her husband will (I think) all vouch for it as well. They all enjoyed meals there. Me (and my Paris jet-lag) are looking forward to meeting you in Boston when you're there

Hi mez...we were in Boston last week. I don't recommend our hotel as it was similar to a British train sleeper compartment but the location was excellent and the price right. (It was The Charlesmark) If you enjoy Italian food we ate at a super place for lunch: Pagliuicas Ristorant at 14 Parmenter St. Excellent pasta and veal and service and we seemed to be the only tourists.

I used to go to Boston regularly, and always stayed at the Eliot (next to Harvard Club) when I could get in (it's small, very quaint/European look, but used to have deals with the symphony so often was booked up). It used to be an excellent value (inexpensive junior suites), but it's been probably five years since I was there so I don't know about now.
Agree re the Fairmont also - a real "grand old lady" (my type of hotel). I've stayed there more recently, and enjoyed it very much.
