I've been getting some PM's from puzzled folks who wonder why I have a new account, so thought I better explain. It's really not a big mystery--just technical problems that for whatever reason prevented me from logging into my old account. That part is a mystery! I tried everything, from logging on from different computers, downloading a new browser, defragging, debugging, quadruple checking my password and log-on names, etc. but couldn't log on. I guess I just fell out of favor with the Web Host Gods (not Truffy, he was a big help!). So at any rate, I'm not AnnetteCinCA any longer, just plain old Annette If it happens again, I'll have to shorten my name further to Anne, and then I'll really have people confused!

:)I also had the gremlins again today........ I logged on this morning for one week and left the computer on to OPF . I dip in and out all morning. About 2pm it suddenly went to " welcome guest, log on or register" and would not take my username or password. This has happened before and I had to change my identity like Annette but I knew what to do this time, I clicked "forgotten password" and they send you your password and a link to OPF, via email. I noticed that my Password had been changed from lower case to upper case letters and Vice versa. it was the same password but the letters were different. So looking forward to seeing Megan tomorrow. Hope your flu is better!!!! denise love from up north So here I am back again. This is Bizarre.

Denise, I tried that also. I had my password sent multiple times, and Truffaut sent me my log on name in case I'd been entering that incorrectly, too. The system would not accept my correct sign in name and password combination. I tried every variation of capital letters, lower case letters, etc. but nothing worked. I wonder if I should have foreseen a problem coming on--I'd always had my log on set for "forever", but several months ago that quit working and I had to re log on every time I came back to the forum. I thought it was the anti-virus software on my computer erasing cookies or something every time it did an automatic check. But now that I've got a new screen name, the "forever" works again! Yes, it is bizarre!
And yeah, I'm officially "old" again Sis! It was sweet of T. to restore my "goodies"!

Oh geesh....I just realized I lost all my bookmarks, too (duh!) Now I'm banging my head against the desk trying to remember all the little tidbits I had marked so I wouldn't forget!

Yikes! I was just asked to login or register, even though I had supposedly been logged on "forever". I hope this doesn't mean that I'm going to eventually have problems like you did, Annette.

I sure hope not, Shoesy! Does anyone know the technical reasons behind why our "forever" log on might stop working? (and can explain it in a non-technical way?!!)

Did you lose all of your bookmarks, a disaster for many of us. As this is the technical forum I have a technical suggestion. If you are using the Firefox web browser (and if you are not you should be), there is a free extension called "Foxmarks" which will save your bookmarks to a remote server. The advantages:
1. You'll never lose your bookmarks, even if you lose your computer.
2. Your bookmarks will appear uniformly among any number of computers you might be using. Save a website on your laptop while traveling and the saved bookmark will appear on your desktop at home.
This indispensable tool is worth a bundle in convenience alone but it'll cost you absolutely nothing. Just install it.

Sarastro, that's a great tip. Yes, I use Firefox (just since this happened) so I'll look into that right away. Are you sure it can access my OPF bookmarks? I had them bookmarked thru my profile here on the forum, not in my browser bookmarks (those are still happily intact). I'm skeptical that it would work that way, but technology can be "magic" sometimes!

Oddly, I had not noticed the OPF bookmark function until you mentioned it. Unfortunately, Foxmarks will not help you in this case but give the program a try anyway. Once you have it setup, it works almost magically and its organizing function makes it a breeze to keep things tidy.
There is however a Firefox extension which will help you organize and keep individual website clippings: Clipmarks. This can be a powerful tool for managing all of those forum tidbits you never want to loose.
And lastly perhaps the finest Firefox extension of them all: AdBlock Plus. This handy utility will wipe out all of that annoying advertising or anything else you do not want to see. If you are not already using AdBlock, install it as soon as you can.

Oh darn! It happened to me again. My "forever" setting was not working. I just hope I don't have to re-register using a different name one day. I really want to remain "Shoesy", and sometimes I even forget that that's not my name in real life.

I have no idea what's causing this problem. I know the scriptwriters are working on a new software version for the forum (supposed to be ready last summer), but that shouldn't have anything to do with it. I'll let you know if I find out.
