I am happy to annouce that Canadians will from now on recieve chipped cards as their cards come up for renewal.. article in paper said Canada is going "chip" to save the credit card companies millions of dollars in eventual loss due to fraud, this in turn will save the retaillers money too. It will be nice not to have to worry about where I can use my card, and great to be able to use it at gas pumps and ticket machines at train stations etc.. I wonder if one wanted could they apply to have their card updated to chip technogly now if needing it for a trip in near future( not for poor me though) ?? Same article said America will not go chip yet,, not sure why?

"Same article said America will not go chip yet,, not sure why?" Likely for the same reason we haven't adopted the metric system! Could you call your CC company and say you "lost" your card? Would you get a chip card as a replacement?

Our card doesn't expire until 2011, I may have to "lose" it soon! Hey, we may be able to rent Velib bikes on our next trip! Jo

Even Mexico is adopting chipped cards. Banks in the US will not adopt the system as they do not want to pay for the new equipment it will require. As for ever increasing losses due to credit card fraud, it's primarily the vendor who pays, not the bank. Banks do not concern them selves with fraud except in the most egregious cases because it's really not their loss.

Thanks Luke, I'll have to see if Bank of Montreal (who I now work for through Nesbitt Burns) is as ready to roll as CIBC (who I used to work for through Wood Gundy).

Luckyluc,, How wonderful it must have felt to be able to say " we travel to Paris often" .... outloud... ( as opposed to the fantasy conversations I have with "me myself and I" where I am constantly saying such tidbits as " yes we are off tomorrow for Paris" or " next week when I am in Paris" or "yes we'll be away for awhile,, in Paris"
