When you go to Paris do your friends give you a shopping list or other things to look up for them? I just had a strange request from my hairdresser. I mentioned we were off to Paris in a few weeks and she asked me if I would stop by the Moulin Rouge and see if her father's picture was still in the entryway. She said it was an opening with pictures before you get to the actual door. It seems her father performed there for years and his picture was there. I googled him and I gather he was rather famous. Even found a youtube video of him. He was ranked right up there with Edgar Bergen. www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLZHqGmUnNs

Demarais! Quite enjoyed the You Tube clip re Lamouret and Dudule! Quite an amusing duo and fun that your hair dresser is his daughter (and I do mean Lamouret and not Dudule! )! BTW, Dudule reminds me of Donald Duck! Well, that is a fun and interesting errand if you chose to follow through!

That's a fun little errand, Demarias. Let us know if you're able to find his picture still hanging! Last year a friend wanted me to bring her a croissant so she could see what all the fuss is about, and a lady down the street whom I hardly know gave me money to bring her "something, anything" from Paris. Otherwise, my acquaintances are pretty much too dumbstruck that I'm going to Paris "again" to think about asking me to bring them anything!

That's a very interesting and original request, Demarais. Be sure to let us know if you find his picture. An assignment that I had been given before my trip to Paris was to compare Berthillon ice-cream with Amorino gelato. In addition, I had promised Irishrovr (I sure miss that dear man. ) that I would check out the Berthillon sorbet and let him know my opinion. Now THAT was a fun mission. ;D

I was thinking the same thing, Anne . The only person who has asked me to do an errand for them is my sister. My first trip to Paris was with her. She purchased a date book that she just loved and, every time I go to Paris, she asks me to get her one for the following year. I'm happy to accommodate her request. Demarais, your "errand" is certainly a fun one. I love those kinds of errands and am always happy to oblige.

Well, no one has ever asked for anything from Paris, but I did recently ask friends to bring me back some macarons from Laduree. Demarais, have fun on your mission!

My SIL asked me to find her a particular perfume - she had received a very small sample as part of a packs that had 6 or 8 selections, really liked it, but couldn't find it in the US. (I've actually never seen it in one of those gift packs, so I guess she was very lucky.) We had fun going to various places until we found one that carried it (also had fun trying to pronounce - well, okay, mangle! - the name). But, mission accomplished and she was very pleased. My secretary once (rather sheepishly) asked me to bring back some Richart chocolates because she loved the painted designs when I brought some from an earlier trip - of course, now they have a shop in SF, so no longer quite such an exotic treat. On an earlier trip, we spent some time in London and tried to carry out a mission to bring someone a crock of cheese (don't recall now what kind) from a fancy shop. Since it was sealed, it seemed it would present no problems in transport or getting it back into the US - but, the seal broke somewhere between London and Paris, and we didn't discover it until it was starting to smell quite vile (as did the duffel bag it was carried in). Fortunately, we had a flat with a small terrace, and the weather was warm and sunny, so we left the duffel outside to thoroughly air for a week or so before we returned (which sufficiently cured the smell problem that at least we could put the dirty laundry in it to bring home . . . . ) The things we do for other people!

Anne & Happy--yeah, I thought that too, but that's all she wanted, so I obliged. She was favorably impressed, tho I did tell her it would have been so much better had it actually been fresh!

On my recent trip a friend asked me to go under the Eiffel Tower and buy as many of the glass replicas that light up as I could carry?!?!? It turns out we could not find the right vendor, but I mean, really, what kind of request is that? As many as we could carry??
I am guilty of asking for Laudere macaroons, also, ouiparis... ;D Just couldn't help myself.

I've often wondered too. Seems like someone (Truffaut, maybe) said he'd been ill? But my memory stinks, so that could be wrong. He is surely missed!

Last I heard, Irish had been having troubles after eye surgery, and was due for another surgery down the road (which time has surely come and gone by now). I hope he's well, too.
