Prepare yourselves for a city standing on the other end, as we say in DK. The Pope is coming to visit Paris on 12 and 13 September. Friday 12 September Pope will speak in Collège des Bernadins and then attend evening mass in Notre-Dame. Means of tranport: papamobile ;D At midnight there will be (I think it means that ?) a procession with torches from Notre-Dame to Les Invalides. I wonder how les sapeurs-pompiers feel about that initiative ? Saturday 13 September Morning prayer and public mass on l'Esplanade des Invalides. As you can see this huge event coincides with our get-together weekend !

Aren't you going to invite the Pope to join your festivities? I'm sure the novelty of it will appeal to the dear old man, who must be tired of his usual type of activities and appearances.

Gitte, you didn't tell us that you were bringing in international talent for the ladies evening entertainment!

Gitte, you didn't tell us that you were bringing in international talent for the ladies evening entertainment! ROFLMPPO! You guys are too much! I was giggling at the prospect of the Pope joining you at "ladies night", but as part of the entertainment?! Gitte, I suppose this visit will make the city pretty crowded for you on those days. So much for fewer tourists

Annette, I bet (hope) that the people who will attend the Pope's mass on Saturday morning won't be the same who will attend the wine harvest in the afternoon, or worse, the naughty event in the evening (although the mass + naughty event association would be typically old-school male Catholic - that being said by a Catholic ;D) . We have all secured our lodgings too, so I guess that the only inconvenience that we could experiment may be in transportation, like some metro stations closed or buses rerouted .

Anne - we could always ask to borrow the papamobile, if he's not using it ! ;D

I've meant to post much earlier but got side tracked.........
I'll ask the Pope if we can borrow it, Gitte! (LOL) He amy not give me a blessing if he finds out what we would want it for. (more LOL)
Anne, I'll try to make the early morning prayer at the Esplanade at 8:00 but won't make the mass at 10 - I have to make that date to meet Gitte at the metro station at 11 so you will still be correct about the crowd not being the same.........

I happened to be in Paris in 1997 when the Pope (I think John Paul II?) did his world youth tour. He appeared somewhere near St. Eustache, if I remember correctly. It was a wild scene. Paris is nothing if not Catholic. God forgive me, I'm picturing the Pope in a G-string for you ladies

Updates for members in Paris tomorrow Friday and Saturday. This is from the city of Paris's website:
Après la rencontre au collège des Bernardins, le Pape se rendra à la cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris (vendredi 12 septembre à 18h30). After the meeting at collège des B., the pope will go to N.D.
Note: the public will only be able to access the Left Bank quais facing N.D.: quai de la T, Monteb., Saint-M. This is because the bridges N.D., Arcols and Saint-L. will be closed. 15 gigant screens will be installed along the quais.
Closed metro and RER stations. Due to the pope-thing, several metro and RER stations will be closed. RER Saint-Mich, metro Cluny-S., metro Cité, will be closed to the public Friday 12 Sept. from 14:00. These stations will be re-opened for the first train Saturday morning. Saturday 13 Sept the stations Invalides and Alma will open from 14:00.
A quelle station descendre pour accéder à l'événement? Odéon, Maubert-Mutualité, Jussieu, Pont-Marie, Châtelet. At what stations to get off to join the pow-wow ? Odéon, Maubert-M., Juss., Pont-M, Châtel.
Have fun ! Am I going to see the papa tomorrow evening ? Sure, if it doesn't rain and I am not trampled to death by hoards of frenzied worshippers......
