Hello everyone!
I was referred to this site by one of your girls. I'm hoping you can help.
My fiance and I are having a symbolic wedding ceremony in Paris - just the two of us in a park in Paris.
My question is - I'm looking for a place where I can get my hair and makeup done that day. All I need is a shampoo and style - no fancy updo - and simple makeup. I was told that it would cost my 250E and I really can't justify that price - nor afford it! Is there somewhere I can go for a little less?
Oh and we're staying in an apartment in Beaubourg if that helps.
Thanks!
Tammi

Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Someone else will have to help you with your question, though.

I suggest you go to one of the hairdresser chain-salons FRANCK PROVOST which are all over Paris. In the righthand side there is a brownish field with symbol. MAQ is "maquillage". So you look under each salon to see if they have that symbol. For instance the one in 132 Rue Montmartre offers make-up (besides hair-do, of course). I am sure you can get a light make-over for much less than 250 euros. I suggest you perhaps call them and ask. Most of them would speak English, is my guess. I will ask our in-Paris-resident phread when I meet her some time next week, if she knows "une bonne adresse" which is not too expensive. I am sure she does, as she is the forum fashionista !

Thanks so much - I will try it. I such a chicken to call for fear I won't be able to understand them! But I will look into it - thanks for the suggestion.

I need help My contact at My Genie in Paris must be having a hard time understanding what I want because the quotes that I am getting are outrageous! They are telling me that it will cost me 200E to get a simple makeup application for my wedding. Does anyone know if this is the standard price in Paris? I find it hard to believe it could possibly cost that much. Overall, the quote that I got would be 250E for hair and 200E for makeup. Even in NYC I wouldn't be charged $700 dollars for that on average! I am nervous about calling the salon myself since I don't speak French and have a hard time understanding the heavily accented English over the phone! I'm sorry to vent but I'm getting anxious about this and frustrated!

Here are the prices for Carita, a VERY famous and expensive institut de beauté in faubourg St Honoré (click on English at top right, then "beauty packages", then "brides") : www.maisondebeautecarita.fr/As you can see, hairstyling + make-up (with first a trial session for both) + manucure are from 394 to 484 euros . So OK, these prices compare with your 450 euros EXCEPT that these include manucure as well, and also Carita isn't at all what one would call "standard price in Paris" . So you must be able to find something much cheaper than 450 euros, sorry I cannot recommend any place, our Paris residents' help is required here ! Now I think of something else : you wrote that you want "no fancy updo" for your hair (I assume that it means no veil to be fitted, no sophisticated chignon, etc ...) and "simple makeup" . So maybe you simply shouldn't mention that all this is for a wedding, weddings' styling is more expensive because brides usually want sophisticated hairdo and makeup, and are hysterical about them being perfect ;D . If this isn't your case, just don't mention the wedding and simply ask for a forfait coiffure + maquillage at a place like Gitte's Franck Provost, this should be much cheaper .

Thanks! I appreciate that. I had a feeling that when wedding is mentioned, prices automatically go up. You are right - I'm not doing a veil or anything. Just want to be a girl!
I will ask for what you mentioned and see if it works at Franck Provost.
