I guess I waited to long to enquire about an apartment for Thanksgiving week. I e-mailed VIP with 15 possibles and only 2 are available. #3 and #8. I like the view from #8 but I'm clueless about the area. We've stayed in the 7th a few times and like it there but the review of the apartment on Slowtravel is not that great.
We will (If plans pan out) arrive on Eurostar so being near Montparnase might be a good thing. Oh dear I see VIP waring about possible construction noise in the area of #8
Help me decide guys. Thanks

Suzanne, Did you ask for a list of all the apartments they had available for your dates? They might have one you'd like that didn't pop out at you on your original list.

I was reading some reviews on Slowtravel today myself, and one mentioned constant construction noise (building rennovations) going from 8 am till 8 pm, which their rental agency hadn't warned them about. They had workers on ladders outside their windows peering in during the day . I'd probably err on the side of caution, if VIP thinks it's in their best interest to warn potential renters.

I guess, because of the construction, I'd go with #3. I'm not one to care that much about the apartment's furnishings, so long as the apartment is clean. I just want a place to sleep and clean up. I agree, that the apt looks like it was furnished with flea market finds. I did consider this apt when looking.
If VIP can assure you that the construction will be done by the time you visit, I'd go with #8, but purely for aesthetic reasons.

One person's shabby is another's shabby "chic"...I personally found #3 to be ok, but then again, I like flea market antiques. As long as it's clean, I'd go with #3 to avoid the construction noise. I don't spend all that much time in the apartment during the day anyway, and I'd rather be able to sleep (in a king sized bed, no less!) than be awake looking at the view at 5am due to the noise!! ;D

Just based on the photos, I actually like 3 better. But, avoiding noise when trying to sleep off the jetlag probably should be the clincher!

:)Dear Suzanne....not much to choose between them. I'm not sure if either has a proper oven or just a microwave. It says oven on #8 but the review says microwave. maybe you should check with the owner if cooking is important to you. Personally I like #8. for the location, nearer to the metro, and because it looks like it may have a better equipped kitchen. But I agree the "construction noise" would put me off. Actually, denise, I don't really need an oven. The most cooking I do is scrambled eggs. We get some take-out so we need a microwave. I need to make coffee in the morning. I really like having a washing machine though.I am very familier with the laundry mat near apartment #3. I just don't like taking any of my precious Paris time doing laundry. It's nice to be able to do it in the apartment.
There is another more favorable review about #3 on Slowtravel by the way.
