So many great tickers have shown up that I couldn't resist** - just go to tickerfactory.com, it's very simple to do!

I love the tickers too! It's such an easy way to keep up with the dates of posters' trips. Am I not seeing the down side to a ticker?

The down side is I can't get it to work.

Megan, once you get the choices set, and it shows you the ticker, block and copy the entire string (make sure you get it all) in the first box of choices (says it's for bulletin boards, I believe). Then past that into your signature block, and it should work. I had trouble on the first couple of attempts, because I was trying to copy the wrong string (from a different box).

PLEASE PLEASE don't hate me...but I gotta be honest here. As much as I like the idea of the trip countdown (and the fact that I can see when everyone is leaving), I find the graphic tickers to be really distracting when I'm trying to scroll down the posts. And while I'm at it, I am also a little bothered by "tickerfactory.com" logo, which is really an advertisement for that site. I don't know why I feel that way, but I do, and in the open and honest atmosphere of the forum I wanted to share my view. Now, please don't banish me from the countdown club.

When I was in the Middle East (swing that lamp), people used to keep a "boat chart" above their beds so that they could cross off each day as it was finished. Bearing in mind that an "overseas tour" was 2½ years, a large piece of paper was required LOL.

Sis - No one could hate you for anything, especially for being truthful about disliking something. I take it that you don't dislike people that actually like them, right?

No Shoesy, I sure don't...which is why I was hesitant to write that I, um, hate the tickers. But I love the posters who use them...

mossie...I wonder what kind of graphics people would have used if they'd been available back then?!

Okay - I see your point (I wish they weren't taking up quite so much space! plus I tried to do mine on the side but it won't go there). Maybe we could have a pact that it's only in the final week or two?

Sistereurope --- I dread to think. I remember someone who was on his way home telling us that he had written to his wife saying "Take a good look at the bedroom carpet, because you won't be seeing it for a week"

I'm with Sis on this one. Though I like knowing when everyone's trip will be on a regular basis...they are a bit space taking...and not too discreet for those of us trying to sneak a few reads in at work!!! I prefer the "30 days to go" or " 29 more sleeps' ( my current number! ;D) at the side or bottom. I believe Truffant once said he preferred not to have the whole screen blinking at him(kind of like Las Vegas!!?? ) and I'm inclined to agree..special occasions yes...but a whole screen full....

If someone (any volunteers?) could find a very unobtrusive ticker that Truffaut thought was acceptable (I understand about not liking the Las Vegas effect, I don't like it either), and if we all used the same, very unobtrusive ticker, it wouldn't be so jarring and graphic when scrolling through posts. Maybe this is a compromise we all could live with ? I admit I like the idea of knowing when people will be in Paris as far in advance as possible. My time is very flexible and I could arrange to be there when one or more of you is there! I like that idea! ;D

:)Sorry folks I think they are fun and brighten up the site on what at the moment is a really gloomy day in England. They don't take up anymore space than the usual bit at the bottom with a slogan. It's nice to know how long people are waiting, and saves changing it each day which is so time consuming.
