I keep finding and buying new books on Paris. Just received 2 in the last 2 weeks and today I found another. Got the new Patricia Wells , We've always had Paris and Provence and French Cheeses, but so far David has been reading PW's and I haven't had time to do more than drool over the pictures in the cheese book. So today I find a new Paris Neighborhood's cookbook! Guess what has just been ordered fro Amazon www.amazon.com/Paris-Neighborhood-Cookbook-Cuisines-Cookbooks/dp/1566567238

I have been reluctant to post this, because sometimes I am not sure whether you people are interested in books in French, but I received this from amazon recently, and I swear it is the BEST book of Paris secrets I have seen as yet. Lots and lots of stuff - e.g. did you know that there is a postoffice in the 5th arr. who opens its basement to visitors every first Wednesday in the month, because down there you can see remnants of Philippe-Auguste's great wall - and also where the river Bièvre used to run through that wall ! Click for the amazon reference: PARIS MÉCONNU - PROMENADE HORS DES SENTIERS BATTUS

Have we all read The Lollipop shoes by Joanne Harris? Reading this in January sent me back to Paris after an absence of NINE (count them) years. It's wonderful, nice and sinister and full of witches.

CC - never heard of it, can you give a hint of the gist, without giving away the plot?

Becky , it's published in The US as The Girl With No Shadow. It's sort of a continuation or sequel to Chocolat

Thanks for the explanation - I can't tell you how many times I've bought books in Europe that were published here under a different name, thinking I was getting something new by the same author!

The book Gitte mentions above, Paris Méconnu, is one of my primary sources for fleshing out our next Paris itinerary. For those who have been to Paris a number of times, it will point you to all sorts of little-known treasures.

I think the Lollipop Shoes is a much better title, why didn't you get that one in the States? Who's read it? I want to go to Paris in November just to hand out on the butte and watch the mists over the cemetery and frighten myself silly.
And eat chocolate, natch.
