Have a great time, you all! You beat the San Francisco GT on September 5 and the Paris GT on September 14. How I wish I have enough time and $ to make this one (I am so greedy!!!!!!!)

Geordy, aoi33 and I had the most delightful lunch yesterday. It took place in a lovely French restaurant called Pastis. (Hmmm.....I didn't know that they name restaurants after OPF chiens, Mimi ;D O.K.....for those of you who don't know, Pastis is the name of Cigalechanta's beloved pooch.) Anyway, I was the first to arrive, and aoi33 showed up about 2 minutes after I had been seated. I had never met her before, nor had I ever seen a photo of her, but as soon as I saw her walk in my direction, I understood that this lovely woman with the warm gentle smile was my dear forum friend, whose posts and PMs I was familiar with. Shortly afterwards, Geordy, who was on a lunch break, arrived, and we were all set to enjoy our meal. Geordy and I had already met a year ago, and after spending quite a few hours in the rain that day, yesterday we felt like old buddies seeing each other again. But it was the first time that the 2 of us had the pleasure of meeting dear aoi33, who had come to Manhattan from her Rhode Island summer home just to meet us, and the 3 of us had a lovely lunch together, discussing Paris, OPF, etc. Unfortunately, our time was limited because Geordy had to go back to work , so after less than 2 hours, we were forced to say our good-byes, knowing that we would surely plan to get together in the future. Now for the food. ;D Both aoi33 and I decided on the same seared tuna Nicoise salad, which turned out to be a perfect choice for me. Really delicious. Geordy, on the other hand, ordered some kind of sandwich, but I can't seem to remember what kind it was so she will have to fill you in on that. However, her empty plate revealed that she too apparently enjoyed her meal as much as we did. Once we had finished our meal, the waiter brought us dessert menus, but we decided to pass on the additional calories, though I told the waiter that I enjoyed reading the words "creme brulee". ;D What I haven't mentioned yet was that both Geordy and I were greeted with a wonderful gift from aoi33.....a little box that said La Maison du Chocolat on it, and inside there were.........macarons !!! Wasn't that sweet (pun intended !!!) of her? It was such a surprise. Well, I decided that I couldn't wait to get home to taste my first macaron so shortly after I left the restaurant, I sat on a bench in a little park and decided that I would have one, and being the nice mom that I am, I'd give the other 2 to my daughter and SIL. Well, that did not happen. After tasting mine, I immediately knew that the other ones were not going anywhere except MY tummy, and within a minute that pretty little box was empty. Thank you, aoi33, for showing me what so many posters have been raving about. I am now a member of the "I Love Macarons" club. In fact, I'd say that macarons are equally as yummy as Berthillon ice-cream. ;D BTW, I have no idea what flavors I had because I gobbled them down so fast, but one was dark brown (chocolate, I guess), one was light brown, and the other was a pretty shade of pink.

Oh, Shoesy, you captured the lunch perfectly!
What Shoesy didn't tell you, though I am sure you all can guess, is that she as delightful and warm in person as she is on the forum. It was such a pleasure to meet both Shoesy and Geordy in person and to have an actual as opposed to virtual conversation with them both.
A big thank you to Geordy for arranging it all and for being able to steal a lunch near her new job. I wish it could have lasted longer and next time, it will.
And Shoesy, the pink macaron was raspberry and the light brown one was caramel. I am thrilled that you are now a member of the club!

OK, I sure wish that I could have been there - and that has absolutely nothing to do with the macarons, of course... ;D

Does everyone remember the old thread on the topic of "house swapping", amongst the forum members? I have just added "aoi33's Summer House in Rhode Island" to my wish list. I'm glad you all had a nice time together

What a difference a day makes....today I had half a peanut butter sandwich on a park bench solo! Not a bad lunch break if you discount the sprinkles and threatening skies! But certainly not like yesterday! My sandwich was a Med Tuna salad..sort of like a pain bagnet on a chiabatta roll..made with the same tuna steaks that they use in the salad nicoise that the other ladies had..but pulled. Delcious. Served on a little round cutting board with a little cup of cornichons and olives! I..the one returning to work...was the only tippler...a glass of rose just seemed like it would perfectly complement the sandwich and the mood! It did! .(and the wine list was sitting right next to me..I 'm sure this makes perfect sense to many of you!) My macarons made it home! I didn't even look in the bag until I got home....an evening special treat (plus I dutifully got back to work ). However I did not wait 'til dessert..once I changed and got settled I set upon the raspberry...superb! I was only going to chose one for dessert..after a slice of homemade salmon quiche...but you know it's summer and there's humidity..I felt it in the macarons best interest to have them in their prime! And the good news is..there is a Maison du Chocolat just a few blocks from my home at Madison btw. 78 and 79th! (Humm..maybe not so good..as there is also Payard on Lex and 74 with good macarons as well.. too many enticements...in Paris the calories do not count here...not sure that works....but they are French made ) So...as Shoesy and aoi33 have said..another lovely OPF gathering! And I'm looking forward to Sept.'s lunch! I've now met 6 members(plus the Italians!) Are we still 8 for Sept.?
