I'm so sorry...I did a search, but saw nothing! (And I figured somebody in this group had to have seen it.)
Annette, I'm with you -- some of them were very funny (the mime one was hysterical) -- some just quirky (the blind guy and the Montmartre one) -- and some utterly bizarre (Chinatown and the vampires) but I really am not sure that it painted Paris in a really favorable light. There were a couple of hearwrenching ones, too -- painful to watch, but another part of life.
Hubby gave it to me for Valentines (and yes, we just got around to watching it. Sheesh) and we were expecting great things -- but it just didn't live up to the hype for us.

I didn't like the Chineese and the vampire ones the most. With the title. they did not seem to fit. I'd rathr see a film like Ronin and see Paris and the Coté D'Azur

With the exception of the Vampire and Chinese segments, I really enjoyed the film We bought a copy from Amazon and have watched it again.
For great history and scenery of Paris we got a DVD called "We Built This city. Paris" We got it from the Dicovery Channel Store.

Wow, sunshine, our DHs must be kindred souls or something. I too received the movie for V Day! My favorites are the Eiffel mimes and the Muslim girl and French boy (what a cutie pie!).

There is a scene at the end of the movie that moved me to tears . It summed it all up for me and it was the American Woman at the end of the film . (and I paraphrase here ) She was sitting in a park and she was saying to herself something along the lines of it being bittersweet that she was so far away from her family and friends in one of the most beautiful places in the world and how she wished that they could join her - but if it meant she had to choose between the two she would rather be lonely in Paris than to never do it. This may be soppy but I blubbed like a baby as it just summed up how I feel about being a solo traveller and just sometimes sometimes wishing I had someone to share it with

Megan, I agree with you. That was a poignant moment, but you won't be a solo traveller come September! Hope everything is going well with the big moving plans.

I did mention to my husband that I'm fairly confident that even though my French is a little wobbly, my accent is at least better than hers! But yes -- all due credit to those who go it alone...sometimes it is more fun to be with loved ones, but sometimes it's great fun to be on your own, too.

Oh I know what you mean Sunshine - in my head my accent sounds better but in reality I am not too sure

The BBC has made a wonderful new series called Paris www.open2.net/paris/abouttheseries.html (not to be confused with the recent movie also called Paris) Watch out for it. I too was disappointed with Paris, Je t'aime and the movie Paris.

I recommend "2 Days in Paris" - it's totally hilarious !! And the guy in the movie is so ugly, that your own S/O will seem like a veritable Cary Grant or Sean Connery in comparison.....

Ell69, I loved Amélie! It's one of my favorite movies ever....it's really sweet. (I also really liked most of the stories in Paris, Je t'aime - and like Gitte I really disliked the boyfriend in 2 Days in Paris!! )

For Good scenery I liked Before Sunset. I keep saying I did not like the characters but I find myself watching it everytime it is on HBO.
I liked the Bourne Identitiy, French kiss and Le Divorce. Love Amelie. Hated the boyfriend in 2 days in Paris.

My two very favorite Paris films are fairly recent (within the last year or so): Avenue Montaigne - serious of overlapping stories, heartwarming, funny and smart. AngelA - black & white and Paris looks stunningly beautiful. It's a comedy/fantasy about two misfits. Very funny and rather spiritual. Some "adult" material...
Also love some older films - the original Breathless with Jean Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg - among the first of the French new wave films. My husband saw it when he was 16 and still wants to be Belmondo. And of course Last Tango in Paris, though the action takes place mostly indoors. It was originally rated X, but that was when the rating system was brand new. It would be rated R nowadays. I consider it a great film and Marlon Brando's best performance.
There is also a buddy-cop comedy/action movie called (in English) "My New Partner." Phillipe Noiret and Thierry Lhermitte. Super.

I saw previous of AngelA but missed it. I saw The Last Tango in Paris years ago but found it too heavy on the sex scenes. In Paris je t'aime, I liked the Muslim girl and the French boy story, also the cowboy scene on the cobblestones and the ending with the lonely lady who would have preferred sharing Paris with someone she loves but would take Paris "toute seule" if need be.............
