I was browsing thru Netflix BBCseries and came upon oe that should interest all our Paris and Monet lovers. It's on order for e!
This sweeping BBC miniseries dramatizes the lives of the French impressionists who boldly created a new style of painting. Reminiscing about his life, 80-year-old Claude Monet (Julian Glover) recalls his experiences in Paris with maverick painters Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Paul Cézanne and Édouard Manet, who endured poverty, social upheaval and derision from the art establishment. Richard Armitage plays the young Monet.

demarais; is The Impressionists the title? I would like to find it myself. I'll also check with my local library as they get this type of vidio.
I have the same title from a PBS series from about 10 years ago. It starts off with a train which is the only live action, the rest is just a voice-over of stills.
It covers the same artists you list and the same challenges you mention.

You really must see this series! I'm almost overwhelmed with the acting and the new knowledge I've gained from it. The wonderful scenery is just an added delight!

Thanks for the info Demarais! We are continually bemoaning the fact that we have several HUNDRED TV stations...and nothing worthwhile to watch (except I am looking forward to T's episode of Ace of Cakes!). I'll look for "The Impressionists" on Netflix.

I saw some of the series on PBS and it was excellent.
For a fabulous read about the artists, I recommend "The Private Lives of the Impressionists" by Sue Roe. I finished it last year just before we went to Paris and it really made me appreciate the paintings on an entirely different level.
