Wauw, demarais - another great article by Elaine Sciolino (who also wrote the romantic article about Paris at Night). That woman has a amazing way with words and she kicks popo as to her knowledge about some of the really juicy Paris stuff !!

Demarais -
I really liked the photos that accompanied Elaine Sciolino's article that were in the slide show entitled "Quiet Corners of Paris" - the same title as David Downie's English language translation of Jean-Christope Lefébure's "Paris au Calme".
Every time we go to Paris, we spend time checking out green spaces we've not seen before. Last fall we explored the relatively new Parc Clichy-Batignolles in the 17th - it needs a little time to mature - and the Square Scipion at the bottom of the 5th, among others.
Of the larger Paris parks and gardens, I'm most fond of the 19th century Haussmannian ones designed (or redesigned as the case may be) by Alphand in the English style, such as the Parc Monceau, the Parc des Buttes Chaumont, and the Parc Monsouris. But stumbling into an unknown (to us) tiny green space is one of the delights of wandering through Paris streets.
We also always try to seek out a green space near whatever apartment we're renting at the time. That's how came to enjoy spending time in the Square du Temple in the 3rd and the gardens at the Palais Royal in the 1st.

My husband and I had a wonderful demi-picnic in the Jardin Catherine-Laboure in very early June. What a fabulous spot! Well worth the effort (not really much of one) to find. There were several children's parties going on, as well as a grown up "garden" party. So much fun to sit and watch the Parisiens just be themselves in such a peaceful setting. Thanks for sharing the link...it was fun to read about the other places I have yet to visit.
