Without knowing ANYTHING about the area, I'm just going by the pictures. I like the Cozy Carpeaux. Maybe I'm a sucker for a fireplace in the bedroom, but I just like the look of that apartment best.

Those all look really nice! I don't know the neighborhood well enough to give an enlightened opinion. If I was picking for myself I would take the first one, I like the reference to a quiet side street, & central location.

After looking at all three location I would said "C'est blanc bonnet, bonnet blanc" so it would more be a matter of personal taste regarding the decoration since the prices are also basically the same.

The first two are in quiet streets, not much action nor café-life, AFAIR. But you are close to Rue Caulaincourt - and LB can give you tons of suggestions for eateries in that neighbourhood. However my stomach-feeling is that the first 2 apts are not really for Montmartre first-timers, if you know what I mean. Rue Lepic, on the other hand, is as smack in the middle of Amélie's Montmartre as you could wish for. And for being a virgin to this area like you are, this one is what I would recommend. You will love all the foodshops and liveliness of Rue des Abbesses and Rue Lepic - and the Abbesses cafés with young Parisiens hanging out all night in the terraces (when all the buscrowd tourists have gone home to their coveted "Central-Paris" Latin Quarter and Saint-Germain......). And the quiet evening strolls you can take uphill in e.g. Rue Tholozé or one of the other old-Paris streets, in the fresh, non-polluted air which is THE real secret of La Butte. The smog never reaches up here, so you can in fact smell and breathe the difference. Not to mention the car-free environment: people can walk in the middle of Rue des Abbesses in the evening, because there is almost no traffic. Yes, the cars in the below pic are PARKED ! Rue TholozéPLUS the apt. has WiFi and a computer in-house, so that you can keep us updated ! And there will be no streetnoise as the apt. overlooks the courtyard. AND the price is very good ! As a matter of fact it goes straight into my own "options list" for 2009 - even if I have stayed in that area a number of times.

And for being a virgin to this area, this one is what I would recommend. That's all I need to hear...this "virgin" is sold (woohoo, I feel like Madonna ) Thanks for the input! ;D (it's the cheapest too - more euros for important things, like wine!)

Happy, just be aware that most (all ?) fireplaces in Paris are just for decoration, they aren't functional anymore .

Being close to the Le Pic market would be a plus for me. All else considered I'd too go for thired...if I wanted to be in Montmarte...too hilly for my old feet!

My comments are: even though they are only blocks apart, the neighborhood at Carpeaux is nicer, not nearly the run-down grafitti as the Northern Tourlaque area which has a rather steep grade as you approach the cemetery. Try and enter the address in Photos des Villes and see if you can't discern a difference. The advantages of the Tourlaque apt. are that it is on a higher floor and it is bigger. Both of these areas are on the NW fringe of Montmartre and are probably a good 500 yards from a metro; maybe not an ideal area for a 1st time visitor.
The Lepic apt. is much better situated to be in the thick of things. It is almost at the intersection with Tholozé (Moulin de la Galette) and just uphill from Amelie's café. It is much closer to metro stops and there are many buses to choose from just down hill at Place Blanche and there is certainly more to choose from in food shopping, cafés, etc. The disadvantages are that it is right in the thick of things, it is only 1 floor up which sometimes means less ambient light and more noise, Rue Lepic is rather steep here and the apt. is tiny...about 16ft.x15ft. in total. This would not be a problem for one, perhaps two people, but beyond that you would be all over each other.
This being said, you appear to be an adventurous, positive type person and would probably enjoy any of the three.

Have you looked at perfectlyparis.com? they have some wonderful apartments. I actually prefer number 1 on your list as it has an airconditioner which could be useful in the hotter weather. But Gitte and Laidback are the Montmartre experts so I would follow their leads.

But Gitte and Laidback are the Montmartre experts so I would follow their leads. Holger is right; I rent through Gail at Perfectlyparis. She has a wide range of apts. mainly in the greater Montmartre area. This is not to take anything away from Yetunde; she actually started as an assistant to Gail and they remain close, along with Paula from Frenchy Rentals. They form a sort of Montmartre Mafia of the rental business and what one knows, they all know. Yetunde's husband is the pleasant chef who runs the cooking school I went to with my grand daughter in May, and he offers a substantial discount if you rent through Yetunde. They are all 3 reputable agencies that will go beyound the pale to help.

I just sent a deposit for the one on rue Lepic...thanks so much everyone. I agree that the location will best suit us, and the price is right too!
I really liked the looks of some of Gayle's apartments (particularly the studio on Junot), but we've rented from Yetunde before and are seriously considering taking Eric's class, so the discount won't hurt!
Thanks again - now the real fun planning begins - the food plan!! ;D

:)Dear Sis........I'm glad you made that choice, I couldn't really give an opinion, as I don't know the area at all, but I would have been be influenced by gitte and laidback who should have the title of resident experts on that area! Denise love from England

HOORAY for Sis !! You will not regret it - and you will never want to "go south" again....... I am currently crossing my fingers for this one Abbesses - only last time I asked the agency, they said that the owner has decided not to put it up for rent in 2009. I so much hope she has changed her mind ! It meets all my requirements: elevator, killer view, internet, washer, spacious bathroom, good price.
